4.35% budget overrun for SunMine $232,985 shortfall will come from reserve funds C AROLYN GR ANT Bulletin Editor

City Chief Financial Officer Holly Ronnquist has recommended to Kimberley City Council that the budget for the SunMine be increased by $232,985. The increase funded by $162,000 from the Kim-

berley Reserve Fund and $70,985 from the SunMine Reserve. In a report to Council, Ronnquist explained that the budget to construct SunMine was $5,350,000 and recent projections estimate the cost will be $5,582,985 resulting in a budget overrun of $232,985 (4.35%). This estimate does not factor in a potential additional cost of $41,637 for the interconnection to the BC Hydro grid. BC

Hydro has until December 31, 2015 to notify the City of additional costs. “We have not had any notification to date,” the report said. “Council approved the creation of a SunMine reserve in the 2015 budgeting process with the direction that all operating profits after debenture payments be transferred to the Reserve. Tuesday night fire in Marysville C AROLYN GR ANT Bulletin Editor

Highway 95A was closed in both directions Tuesday evening as the Kimberley Fire Department responded to a fire in the Bohemian Spirits building. Assistant Chief Rick Prasad says that the Fire Department had a great response and knocked the fire down quickly, before it could spread to adjacent buildings. “It could have been a lot worse,” he said. “There is damage to the contents of the building and smoke damage in it and adjacent buildings.” Prasad says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
