Nisku Spine Road’s grand opening ribbon was held Nov. 23; Leduc County mayor John Whaley cuts the ribbon. During the short presentation attendees were told the need for the road, which was constructed to alleviate regional traffic flow on Highway 2, was identified approximately 20 years ago. This is only the first phase of the road and construction began May, 2015. The total cost of the project was $15 million. On average, county staff take to the roads two to three times a week to clean up the areas. “Spring and fall and the end of the month are generally worse possibly due to people moving,” said Stone. There are also some areas of the county being hit worse than others. “East and west of Beaumont, north of Hwy 625 on roads leading south into the County from the City of Edmonton; east of Leduc between highways 625 and 623,” said Stone.
