Homeless people in Abbotsford will get a 40bed, low-barrier, winter shelter within the next several weeks on Riverside Road, just south of the Highway 1 overpass. Once the temporary construction-trailer fa-

cility is up and running, the city plans to take down the Gladys Avenue homeless protest camp in mid-January. The portable shelter will operate from mid-December to the end of April, and may reopen again in the cold season next year. The city is providing land for the project and $750,000 for the trailers.
