“Walking into the room the first time after the renovation lifted my spirits. The paint colour, the added space and the privacy made a big difference for me and made my procedure more relaxing. On behalf of all cancer patients, we would like to thank the community for caring so much.”

LESLIE BAIRD, Mayor of Cumberland

“St. Joseph’s staff is forever grateful for the continued support from our ‘guardian angels’ that faithfully provide resources for our cancer patients.”

We knew we needed to do something for the sake of our patients, staff, physicians and volunteers, so the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation reached out to our amazing community for support, and the response was incredible. This June, we expanded the Cancer Care Unit and 100 per cent of the cost of renovations and new equipment came from you – our community.

Thank you, Comox Valley!

PHILANTHROPY DAY R E G STRON As our community grows, unfortunately so does the number of Comox Valley residents diagnosed with cancer. In 2007, the number of cancer care patient visits at St. Joseph’s General was 1,408, and by 2014 it had risen to over 4,700. Meanwhile, the size of the Cancer Care Unit stayed the same. It was cramped, crowded and privacy for treatment was getting harder to come by.
