New networking group looking to promote shop local RYAN GRAHAM Observer Reporter The Quesnel Business Networking Group is all about business staying local. President Wendy Heppner says their organization is about building business relationships in the Gold Pan City. “We’re looking to nurture and build local

business relationships within our community in order to contribute to the success of those businesses and the City of Quesnel as a whole,” Heppner said. “We’re there to give and receive referrals to each other and by doing this we are growing each of our businesses.” The group began in 2013 and has grown to 24 members.

They have membership guidelines for people who are considering joining. They only allow one member of a certain occupation, trade or profession. With this they avoid fighting with each other over referrals. “That way we’re giving out referrals without competing against each other,” Heppner said. “We’re trying to bring in

a large variety of different people.” She says the group expects weekly attendance and it’s mandatory for members to be constantly pursuing the group’s goals by giving referrals to other members each month. Membership fees are $120 a year which comes out to $10 a month. The group meets every Thursday from 8:40 –

9:10 a.m. Heppner says she would like people to know that this group is about staying and shopping local. “We really need to help promote local businesses and with our networking that’s what we’re doing,” she said. “I think small towns need that to keep shopping local.” Heppner also believes that with this week

dedicated to small business it was a great opportunity. “I think with the Small Business Week building our referral database is very important to our group because this is what we do,” she said. “We’re promoting small business and keeping business local.” Anyone interested in joining or would like more information, call Wendy at 250-992-6611.
