FARMERS’ MARKET

In 2013 Scott DiGuistini and Merissa Myles launched Tree Island Yogurt right here in Royston. Two short years later, they have expanded their product line (which flavours have you tried?), introduced new (lower waste) packaging and expanded their sales locations and that’s not all! It was important for Merissa and Scott to find the most natural source of dairy for their artisanal yogurt. That meant locally sourced and grass-fed, so they went about building relationships with farmers. They were looking for farms providing their cows with open access to pasture and a year-round diet based on fresh, dried and fermented grass and they found it right here in the Comox Valley. For consumers that means a healthier product: no antibiotics, no growth hormones. For Merissa and Scott it means supporting local sustainable farms. Tree Island Yogurt is also proud to be one of the few yogurt producers that’s using only fresh whole milk - no powders or fillers. Where to find Tree Island Yogurt? In the Comox Valley you’ll find Tree Island Yogurt at the Market every Saturday year round, and at local independent grocers as well as Thrifty’s. How important is the Comox Valley Farmers’ Market? The Market is where they connect with the local food community; both customers and other vendors who are working towards building a stronger local food system here. It’s also where they test new flavours. “It’s important to us to hear from our customers,” Merissa says. “The Market gives us that direct contact.”
