Mount Thom Park Mount Thom Park came into being in 1943 with the purchase of a 38ha forested area from the Province. The park has since grown to 70ha with the purchase of additional lands, the dedication of subdivision land and riparian areas in Promontory and, most recently, the donation of 8ha of land on Ross Road for “Karver’s Trail”. The focal point of Mount Thom Park is the 484m high Mount Thom. The summit offers views over Promontory, Sardis and Cultus Lake. There are several access points to the park: five from Promontory: Teskey Way, Thom Creek Drive, Sylvan Drive, MacFarlane Place and MacLachlan Place as well as three from Ryder Lake: Forester Road, Churchill Parkway and Ross Road. The park contains one of the few remaining accessible stands of mature Douglas Fir as well as a variety of other tree species including Western Hemlock, Broad Leaf Maple, alder and cottonwood. The park is home to wildlife including: deer, squirrels, chipmunk and the occasional black bear. The park now contains over 7ha of trails ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate. The Thom Creek Trail, the longest in the park, gains over 300m elevation over 3km to its junction with the Lookout Loop Trail then another 50m to the summit. The length and vertical gain can be extended by starting at the Jinkerson Stairs or Bailey - Rexford Trail. The Horse Loop Trail, combined with the Lookout Loop Trail, is the most popular hike from the Ryder Lake side of the park. The trail starts at the parking lot on Churchill Parkway, ascending the upper portion of the Horse Loop Trail then the Lookout Loop Trail to the summit. Karver’s Trail, the most recently constructed trail in the park, was constructed on land donated to the City in memory of Karver Morford. From the trailhead on Ross Road, the trail starts as a gravel driveway then climbs 190m over 1.3 km where it joins the Thom Creek Trail to the summit. In addition to the main trails within the park, the Ridgeline and Viewpoint trails provide additional variety. Trails within the park can be combined with trails from the Promontory area, shown on the map, to provide longer hikes. Swimming Lesson Descriptions Parent & Tot (6 – 35 months) In this program we introduce your child to water, build their water con¿dence, and educate you as the parent on pertinent water safety. Our program consists of singing songs and playing interactive games, through fun group activities we will appeal to your child’s curiosity and desire for play, while we increase their comfort in and under the water. In addition, we will promote balance and movement; and begin swim skill acquisition. Preschool 1 (Ages 3 – 5) In this beginner level, all skills are assisted by the instructor. Using games and activities, swimmers will learn to submerge, open their eyes under water, develop basic Àoats, glides and kick. Preschool 2 – 3 (Ages 3 – 5) Swimmers will further develop unassisted Àoats, glides, and kicking. They will learn to swim up to 10 metres, and perform skills in deep water. Preschool 4 – 5 (Ages 3 – 5) Swimmers will increase their swimming distance to 20 metres, and their surface support to 20 seconds. They will learn the fundamentals of front crawl, back swim and be introduced to whip kick. The majority of this class is taught in deep water. Every kid deserves a chance What do you think about a child’s need to get a good start in life? The YMCA Strong Kids campaign is our way of raising the funds needed to ensure children and families can live healthier lives, right from the start. Everyone can belong Let’s face it, sometimes life makes it hard to pursue a healthy lifestyle. That’s why the YMCA Access Program oers ďŹ nancial assistance for individuals and families who face barriers to joining our programs. After all, nothing should stand in the way of pursuing a healthy life.

YMCA Programs for Children & Youth
Parents with young kids are tight on time and energy. That’s why we focus on making our programs easy to ďŹ t into your schedule, while giving you the chance to exercise and recharge. Whether you’re playing games together on Family Night, dropping in for a swim, introducing your child to new activities or each ďŹ nding your own way to be active at the Y, you can be conďŹ dent you are growing as a family. YMCA memberships include programs for kids and adults at the best times of day.
Excellent pre-school and physical literacy programs for healthly child development YMCA Youth Leadership Development YLD is a safe, fun, comfortable environment where you can build self-esteem, lifelong friendships and develop strong leadership skills. Plus, you’ll meet new people and have fun. MEND - Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do It! Trying to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle can be challenging. With school, an abundance of screen time and a busy family life, kids are spending less time being active and as a result, many are above a healthy weight. Helping kids grow up strong and healthy is why the YMCA exists. That’s why we oer MEND, a provincially funded program that empowers children and families to become mUUFS BOE IFBMUIJFS 5IJT GSFF BOE GVO XFFL QSPHSBN TVQQPSUT DIJMESFO BHFT 7-13 who are above a healthy body weight to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Parents/ caregivers join their children in each session to learn about how to choose healthier foods and spend more time being physically active. Licensed Child Care Choosing a child care provider is a big decision. You want your child to feel at home, learn, grow and have fun in an environment that is welcoming, safe and stimulating. And most of all you want caring and supportive caregivers who understand what makes your child special. Through both our early years and before and after school licensed programs, kids learn values and positive behaviours in a supportive environment. Children have the opportunity to be active, have fun and develop conďŹ dence. Plus, parents get the peace of mind knowing that children are active and learning while spending time with friends and positive adult role models. Trade Shows, Conventions, Concerts, Dog Shows, Horse Shows, Arena Cross Events, ABA BMX Bike Grand Nationals and local club events just to name a few. There is a seven acre field for outdoor concerts and festivals as well as plenty of space for camping with your event. There is also a rodeo arena as well as two outdoor sand arenas for your many different equestrian and agricultural events. All arenas are equipped with outdoor lighting for those evening rentals. Heritage Park, which has been operational since July 2001, is ideally and conveniently located just off the Trans Canada Highway at Exit 116. This allows for easy access by those within Chilliwack as well as people living in the Lower mainland. The striking presence of this 150,000 square foot red building and 65 acre grounds also attracts travellers from all over the
Canada, as well as many visitors from the United States. Heritage Park is a versatile facility. Features include a flexible public address system, box office and show office. The building is comprised of four floors; two are concrete floors that measure approximately 35,000 square feet each. There is also a 48,000 square foot dirt floor and a 30,000 square foot dirt floor. We have 150 portable box stalls for your equestrian event that can be put up on either the concrete or dirt floors, depending on your requirements. The building houses a portable stage, as well as tables and chairs. Our washroom facilities include showers and are handicapped accessible. Heritage Park is not only a fine multiuse facility, but it also offers you a management and staff who are committed to your satisfaction.
