Fall is such a great season! In many ways, it feels like the beginning of a new year with school starting and many of us returning to activities or trying new ones. Being active and “playing� are proving through years of research to enhance the quality of our life - especially as we get older.

As kids, play was one way we learned.

It helped us to engage, explore and discover the world around us. Tracy Stuart, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Nanaimo says, “We often forget how important play is to a child’s healthy brain development, but time and time again, studies have shown that play helps children with speech and language abilities, social interaction and boosts cognitive development.�
