Park Mobile residents breathe easy – for now Amy Reid

SURREY — City council delayed a development application Monday night that would see a manufactured home park replaced by a $250-million
seniors’ facility in light of concerns from residents about what their fate will be. The city’s existing bylaw in the matter is 20 years old. While it was revisited in 2006 when a development application came to city hall, no changes were made after
the developer pulled out. “I want a reexamination,” said Mayor Linda Hepner. “And to make sure that everyone has a place to go and that it’s very individualized because different people have different circumstances. “We have work to do.”
After city council’s decision, park resident Cory Schimpf said “every little bit is a win… but the game isn’t over yet.” Roughly 100 people live in Park Mobile’s 45 units, located at 9525 King George Blvd. “We’re going to keep
moving on this,” he said firmly. “We’re human beings, we have rights, we’re not here to be stepped on.” The application will likely go to public hearing in the fall. ❚ See Amy Reid’s column on page 12.
