2004B Isles tune up for B.C.’s with silver at regionals
There was more than a silver lining for the Richmond Islanders 2004B girls’ softball team at last weekend’s Lower Mainland championships. The second-place finish in Vancouver also served as a prelude for the upcoming provincials to be hosted by Richmond July 17 to 19 at London Park. Seeded third, the Islanders finished the round-robin portion of the under-12 tournament with a 2-1 record and then advanced to the final with victories over the South Delta Invaders and the South Surrey/ White Rock Thunder. The
INDEX IN BRIEF
Islanders also defeated the latter in their opening game on Friday. Going into the last inning of their playoff game Sunday, however, the Islanders trailed 10-5 but rallied with some aggressive base running and hitting. With the game tied 10-10 after regulation, the game was decided by international rules. The Islanders prevailed by scoring three runs to overcome a 2-0 deficit for a 13-12 victory. Richmond had little energy left however in the final, which they lost to Langley Xtreme.
