Skills Development and Learning – with an Emphasis on Fun! Kids just want to have fun, and they should! They learn and grow through play. Creative arts, the challenge of games, sports and outdoor activities, opportunities for self-expression and exploration are vital to their development. The value of play to a child’s growth is the foundation of all our camp services.

This is a supervised time before and after camp when children can play games or work on arts and crafts.

CHILD PROTECTION POLICY:

At Saanich Recreation Services our primary responsibility is to provide a safe and fun environment for your children. Since 1995, we have conducted police information checks for all of our staff. As part of their orientation, all staff receives training in appropriate conduct with children, recognition of harassment and bullying, recognizing signs of abuse and responding to disclosures.

Our summer camps are known for their excellent reputation, and our camp leaders are chosen for their experience, abilities and dedication. Our staff team is committed to ensuring a safe and fun day camp experience for your child.

SAFE PLACES FOR KIDS

Your child’s safety is our priority! Children are fully supervised throughout the day and our facilities are checked daily for safety. Our leaders have current first aid, police information checks and have received training in child protection procedures, leadership, diversity and cultural awareness.

Parents are required to complete and submit a participant information form for each child with emergency contact information and authorized pickup information. It is the District of Saanich’s policy that children must be signed-in and signed-out of daycamp programs by an authorized caregiver.

AGES AND GROUPS

Each camp has a specific age range for which the activities are appropriate.

Registration of children outside the given age range of a camp may not be possible.

WHAT TO BRING

For full-day camps, your child needs to bring a knapsack packed with a healthy lunch and two snacks, water bottle, a hat, sunscreen, swimsuit, towel and a change of clothes. Use of vending machines is not permitted during camp hours. Depending on the camp, additional items may be required. You will receive information about this on the first day of camp.

Please remember to label all your child’s belongings! Please leave electronic devices at home (iPods, gaming devices, etc.)

THE FIRST DAY

You may need to stay for a few extra minutes on the first day so our staff can ensure your child is signed in and we have all of the required information from you. Please feel free to stay until your child is comfortably settled and we have answered any questions you may have.

YOUR COMMUNITY – YOUR PROGRAMS

Saanich summer camps are your programs. We actively encourage your input and support. If you have questions about a camp, or information about how we can make sure your child’s stay at camp is successful, please call us. The camp programmer is happy to hear from you and help with any questions or concerns. We want your child to have an excellent camp experience!

Christy Moser I love working with kids, and I love planning activities and learning opportunities that are fun, exciting, and safe for all of our campers. I believe the campers will enjoy the wide range of themes, activities, and adventures we have planned for all of our camps, including crafts, games, swimming, and out-trips!

When I was nine years old, I wanted to be a scientist. Now I’m in school studying linguistics and speech sciences, and I am planning on becoming a speech-language pathologist!

REFUND POLICY

72 hours notice is required for a full refund. We understand that withdrawals will happen but we require the 72 hours notice to attempt to fill the spot.

Once upon a time, there was a world without video games and movies. This was a time when adventures were lived and remembered. Through animation, thrilling games, hilarious songs and a little creativity we bring the summer to life for your children. Each week is a new chapter in our story that will navigate us to Mumbledore’s Missing Memories. Join us for one week or the whole summer in “the land of PhuN”!

Mumbledore’s Missing Memories

Saanich Neighbourhood Playground Programs are safe, well-supervised, high-quality and affordable daycamp programs delivered in a park setting with plenty of active, imaginative play.

Staff is enthusiastic, has current first aid, criminal record checks and has received training in child protection procedures. This unique program receives additional funding to help keep fees low for parents. A little rain…No problem, we have indoor facilities available for poor weather.

Mumbledore, resident wizard and historian of the Land of Phun, has lost his memory!

Without the campers’ help, the secrets of the Land of Phun will be lost forever! Some of your phavourite characters are back for a journey through space, time and imagination to help Mumbledore regain his memories and ensure the Phun times are never phorgotten!

But the best thing is getting to relive all my favourite childhood games like camouflage, and capture the flag and completely forgetting that this is a job! Because it is way too much fun! I think the children really enjoy innovation and creativity with the Saanich Neighbourhood Playground Programs, the simplest things often bring them the most entertainment because they get to use their own imagination to make things fun! I am always amazed what the campers think of with only a few pieces of equipment given the opportunity.

When I was 9 years old I wanted to be a mermaid, this never changed.

It’s also awesome when you get campers repeating camps so that you get to know some of the kids really well over the course of the summer. Since I run a crafts and cooking camp, I think the kids really enjoy getting to have the hands on element in many of the activities. Alex Smith I am most passionate about experiencing new things. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to meet so many new people and get to know many amazing campers throughout the summer.

I like fresh challenges! Anything is possible at camp so who knows, you might discover something you never knew you liked or something you never thought you could do: like trying new sports, learning new crafts and games, or pushing yourself to achieve something. Camp is where you not only learn about others but also you learn new things about yourself At age nine I changed what I wanted to be every week. Princess, cashier, police woman, dancer, but the main one was a teacher. I would make up math tests that usually did not make sense and pretend to grade the tests.

YOUTH MOVIE MAGIC WORKSHOPS 10-14yrs

Jessica Patten The best part about being a summer camp leader is that my work schedule includes doing all my favourite summer activities: being outside, swimming, and going to parks/beaches! I’m running some very unique camps this summer, so I think that the kids in my camps should look forward to getting to do some very fun and out-ofthe-ordinary activities. For example: In Tuff Kidder they will be challenged to complete a variety of tasks, such as jumping in icy pools, balancing on wet beams and crawling through mud. What could be better?!

Believe it or not, I have only ever had one career goal in mind since I was five years old: school teacher. Which I now am! But at nine, I probably also wanted to do something where I got to perform for people, like acting or dancing.

TUFF KIDDER 8 to 11yrs

Obstacles, challenges and lots of fun: Learn the skills to get you through this obstacle course. Train to complete the course and remember, fun and perseverance are the key lessons, not who wins.

Finish the day with a swim or skate.

Summer Camps Emily Harris I love seeing smiling faces of young energetic children playing and enjoying the outdoors, while facilitating and co creating a fun environment for a memorable summer fun experience. We were all children once so we know how to have a laugh, play and lead a camp best suited to the young and adventurous.

When I was nine years old I wanted to invent toys, games or languages that fulfilled all aspects of my imagination!

Get out on the lake for some rowing fun! With two rows per day and a focus on sculling boats, our camp is supplemented with activities to develop basic movements and flexibility. Stay active and have fun learning about the sport of rowing!

Through a month-long, mentored Saanich Recreation daycamp placement, this program offers successful applicants the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience working with children and youth. Previous leadership training and experience is an asset. Participants who complete the program will receive a $500 honorarium. Let us introduce your junior golfer to the fun of playing golf. Based on the Level 1 Future Links formula our Camps run Monday thru Thursday, using all the golf facilities at Cedar Hill. CN Future Links strives to provide your son or daughter with a positive learning experience through a variety of different programs.
