Have you heard about an ETHICAL WILL? It’s not the same as your “last will and testament”, which tells your family (and your lawyers) what assets you want to leave to whom.

An ethical will tells them what you want them to KNOW. When you take the time to prepare an ethical will, you can share with your loved ones your advice, feelings about your life, gratitude, wishes and even express some of your personal regrets.

This is also a good document to use as you explain the elements in your legal will.

It doesn’t have to be a lengthy document. Usually a few pages will do, so don’t be daunted by the thought of preparing one.

If you decide to make an ethical will, start by jotting down some notes about what’s really important to you and what you want your loved ones to know after you are gone.

Take your time and wait a week or so before reading through it again so see if it still “rings true”.

This letter (your ethical will) is a personal gift of yourself, written in love for those you love.

Keep your ethical will with your other important legal documents.
