SPELL BOUND LISA VANDERVELDE/MORNING STAR

John Graham (left) and Mike Foote of the Vernon Rotary Vowel Movements put their heads together Wednesday morning at the Junction Literacy and Youth Initiatives Society’s Spelling Bee at the Best Western Vernon Lodge. The event marked a record year with 23 tables and raised $28,000. Joe Rogers (below), superintendent of schools, and Wendy Smith, of the Vernon school district Bee lieve in Literacy team take part in the event while sporting their piggy bank costumes. Tanya Golanowski and Jim Hamilton of the Okanagan College Egg Heads compare notes on a word. The Egg Heads won the competition, for their fourth straight year in a row. See A8 for more on the Spelling Bee.
