Contributed photo by DARREN CLARK

A selfie taken by Darren Clark, with instructor Allan Wood, both from Cu Nim Gliding Club near Black Diamond. In the background you can see the Old Man River meandering past the Cowley airfield and in the far distance is the Livingstone Range, north and west of Pincher Creek. Twice each year, in August and October, glider pilots from all over Canada congregate to fly the Mountain Wave conditions at this world renown site.

EIGHTEEN MONTHS AFTER HEAVY SNOW CAVED IN THE ROOF OF THEIR HANGAR, THE CENTRAL ALBERTA GLIDING CLUB CLUB IS POISED TO HOST THE CANADIAN NATIONAL SOARING COMPETITION. ADVOCATE REPORTER PAUL COWLEY CATCHES UP WITH THE CLUB TO FIND OUT HOW PREPARATIONS ARE GOING. SEE RELATED STORY ON PAGE
