There was an elderly gentleman in my neighbourhood who was everything a good greeter could be.

Every morning on my way to work I would see him taking his walk.

His greeting was not with words but with a cheerful wave of his cane and a smile for every car and every pedestrian that passed him.

I never got his name but that didn’t matter.

The wave of his cane and his wonderful smile started the day for so many of us, his nameless neighbours.

I miss that “CANE WAVE” terribly.
