PINK SHIRT DAY: Youth bring antibullying messages to the silver screen Arnold Lim News Gazette staff

bullying and how it affects them,” said West Shore Boys & Girls Club supervisor Dana Parkes. “They are speaking to peers and it’s a great public awareness event and on par with what they are interested in, and is a great venue to get the message across.” Both the West Shore and the Millstream Boys and Girls clubs are involved, making personal pledges, pink bracelets and deco-

rating pink t-shirts in a show of support against bullying. Meanwhile, filmmaking participants age 18 and under are creating 30-second PSAs that convey a creative or impactful anti-bullying message. “It is quite incredible to see what youth are capable of in the computer, and the production value is really surprising at first and admirable,” Parkes said.

“They put a lot of effort into making it a professional product and they take a lot of pride in the message and production of the video. You wouldn’t know it’s amateur filmmakers and (editors). It’s something a T.V. station would produce.” PlEASE SEE: Filmmaking youth, Page A4 Our View, Page A9
