Stephen O’Shea once filmed a music video on Front Street. Now he sees the waterfront

historical area as a possible cauldron for the arts. And as the new executive director of the New Westminster Arts Council, O’Shea may be able to take

a hand in making that happen. O’Shea takes the helm of his new position on March 9. A former bassist with the dancepunk new-wave band You Say Party!,

O’Shea, 33, said he hopes to bring new energy to the organization that functions as an advocate for the visual and performing arts in the city. Please see O’SHEA EXCITED, A3

Construction on a new playground and spray park in Moody Park will begin this spring. But it won’t be completed until early next year. In the meantime kids will have to make due with the existing playground. The new playground was approved by New West council in December. But the timeframe for construction was presented to council on Monday. It recommends a two-phase process, with underground servicing work to be completed over eight weeks from mid-March to midMay. The actual construction of the new playground and spray park won’t begin until early September and is expected to take about 20 weeks. “This construction schedule allows the playground and spray park to remain open during the summer months,” said the report to council.
