Smart meters are a contentious issue in the Okanagan as FortisBC continues to install the devices that emit radio frequency radiation on homes to convey usage information wirelessly. ...............................

It was all smiles Friday when Lake Country Food Assistance Society’s Phyllis McPherson was presented with a Canadian flag by Kelowna-Lake Country MP Ron Cannan. Hers was one of 50 flags handed out by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to deserving Canadians to mark the 50th anniversary of Canada’s official flag, the Maple Leaf. If 10 per cent of the Lake Country population signed electoral response forms in the five-week process, the district wouldn’t be able to go through the loan process and would have to

come up with a different plan if it wanted to purchase the corridor. The implications of a potential no vote were not known as Lake Country and its partners have until the end of March to close the financial conditions on the tentative deal with CN Rail.
