Winter Mayhem in Kimberley C AROLYN GR ANT Bulletin Editor

It’s Winter Mayhem week in Kimberley, beginning Saturday, February 7. Winter Mayhem has grown out of the hugely successful Mayhem in the Platzl rail jam last year. Rather than just limit it to one night, says organizer Cora Miller, why not celebrate winter in Kimberley with a week long series of events. It will all culminate with the rail jam on February 14. The rail jam has been moved up to the base of the ski hill as there simply isn’t enough snow downtown this year to construct the course. But it will still feature all the excitement and energy of last year’s event. There is lots to get excited about, Miller says, beginning with a snowshoe adventure on Saturday morning, February 7, at 10 a.m. The tour, hosted by the Kimberley Nature Park Society, departs from the Swan Avenue entrance at 10 a.m. and will take about two hours. This is a moderate hike. Participants should be comfortable walking some distance in snowshoes.

The winner of the event goes to Canada’s biggest curling bonspiel, the Tim Horton’s Brier in Calgary beginning February 28. Above, Buchy calls a shot in round robin action.
