wedding themes can add up to extra Every couple wants their wedding to be memorable. The goal of planning a wedding is to create an experience that everyone will remember for years to come. For some couples, a theme wedding is the best way to accomplish just that. When it comes time to select a theme, the day the wedding takes place may dictate the theme. For example, if the wedding takes place on Halloween, the ideas for the theme are easy. Many other couples choose a theme that highlights a specific interest or hobby or something that is dear to them. Here are some

popular wedding themes. * Holiday: The Christmas season lends itself well to wedding planning. The colors (red, green, gold) are already established, and most churches and buildings are already decked out in holiday finery, cutting down on the amount of flowers and embellishments couples need. Because the holiday season is so busy and a popular time for socializing, couples who want to tie the knot during this time of year should send save-thedate cards well in advance. Another option is to have a “Christmas in July” wedding, featuring the same holiday

fun

themes but without the hectic nature of the holiday season. * Fairytale: Many men and women envision a fairytale wedding complete with horse-drawn carriage and the “happily ever after.” This is what makes Disney properties as well as the various castles around the world popular backdrops for wedding events. Those planning a fairytale wedding need only look to favorite stories or movies for their inspiration. Theme weddings can add an extra spice to the festivities and incorporate couples’ interests into the event -making it even more special.

photographer finding the perfect

Finding the perfect photographer... Wedding photographers must be discreet during those intimate moments, be sensitive to your feelings and love the spontaneity of the moment. Finding the perfect photographer can be a real headache for the bride and groom. A crucial choice indeed, as the photograph album is always a precious souvenir. Whatever you do, don’t accept the services of a distant family member who happens to have a

reasonably good camera. In fact, few people have enough experience and knowledge to deliver a final product capable of reproducing the magic of a wedding. Looking for a photographer is a little like finding your future partner; you need to discover that rare pearl, the one just right for your style and your personality.

photographer’s methods and how he or she intends to recreate your special day in pictures. Some offer eccentric, modified or sepia photographs, others will talk about a photographic wedding story while some will offer to take the photographs when the light is ideal... even when this is not on the day of your wedding!

It is vital, therefore, to organize a first, informal meeting where general questions can be discussed regarding the

the

groom

has duties too

Weddings are all about the bride right? Not entirely true. There is much for the groom to think about and organize before the big day. Some things that the man of honour for the day, must do to make sure this day is as special as possible are: • Choose best man and groomsmen.

• Select wedding attire for groom and for the men in the wedding party. • Get groomsmen measured up for tuxedos earlier rather than later. • Arrange transportation to the ceremony for the bride,

the father of the bride, the bridal party, the best man, the groomsman, and groom.

• Arrange transportation for the entire wedding party from the ceremony to the reception. • Learn how to dance, either with dancing lessons, or at home in the living room. • Purchase a gift for the groom’s soon-to-be wife. • Purchase gifts for groomsmen • Plan the rehearsal dinner • Prepare a toast for the rehearsal dinner. • Prepare a speech for the reception

• Any other tasks as decided between the groom and his bride-to-be. The dedicated lines between what is done by the groom and what is organized by the bride are fuzzier these days than they once were. Communication between everyone involved is key.

dress

choosing the Choosing your wedding dress may very well be one of the single most important decisions leading up to your wedding day. This is the dress that everyone will remember you in for years to come and what you will see as you share your wedding pictures with your children, friends, and family. Most bridal store consultants will recommend that you start shopping for your dress at least six months before your wedding date.

Get educated: When you first get engaged and begin your search for your dream wedding dress it is a good idea to start by looking in bridal magazines or online to help determine a style that you may want to try. Remember that what may look good on the models in the magazines, though, may not be the most flattering for your particular shape or size. Keep an open mind and try many styles. You may be surprised at what you find. Make an appointment with

the bridal shop. Plan to spend a couple of hours trying on dresses. Right off the bat, let the salespeople at the store know your budget, as there is nothing worse than trying on a dress that you fall in love with only to find out it is way more than you can afford. Be prepared for a long day. Make sure that you eat and drink lots of water before

Take a family member or a friend, someone you trust with you to the bridal store. This can be your mother, sister, best friend, or anyone who is kind, honest, knows both you and your personality and will offer an honest opinion.

you arrive to try on dresses. Readiness will help you to arrive at the store excited, full of enthusiasm and looking forward to the task at hand. Again, arrive at the store with an open mind. Quite often you will go in looking for one style of dress and the salespeople will suggest you try others. Try on lots of different styles and follow

your own heart and intuition. This is your dress; your day. Take pictures of the process. When you try dresses on, take a picture from every angle. Go home, sleep on it, then get the pictures out and reevaluate how you look in each dress. You might find yourself surprised once the initial “joy” wears off.

You Deserve The Best

Give yourself plenty of time for dress ordering and alterations. Your dress may need to be special ordered, which can take anywhere from four to six months. Ideally, you want your wedding gown to be ready to wear one month before your wedding. Most dresses will require a few adjustments as they are all standard sizes. A skilled seamstress will make your dress fit your body like a glove.

flowers

popular

Along with your dress, your wedding bouquet is front and center with you and can be a major focal point of your wedding. Your bouquet should tell a story about you, as it is the first thing your guests see as you walk down the aisle. Your flowers should accent your gown and not outshine or overwhelm you or your decor. A favourite flower of the bride, mother, or grandmother or rosary beads, crystals, and jewelry, are also often incorporated to personalize the bridal bouquet.

During the Victorian era the well-read guide, The Language of Flowers, created an ultra-romantic language for lovers’ correspondence in which flowers replaced words. Each flower was given meaning in relation to romance and many brides continue to use this framework to tell their own story: Calla Lily - Magnificent beauty Carnation - Pink represents boldness, red symbolizes love, and white indicates talent.

wedding

Daisy - Share your feelings Freesia - Innocence Gardenia - Purity, joy Hydrangea - Understanding Lily - Majesty, truth, honor Lily of the Valley - Happiness Orchid - Love, beauty Rose - Love, joy, beauty Stephanotis - Marital happiness Sunflower - Short-stemmed sunflowers mean adoration; long-stemmed sunflowers symbolize haughtiness Tulip - Love, passion Whatever the flower - have fun and enjoy your own romantic tale.

outdoor

Getting married outside can add a romantic, relaxed feeling to your wedding, but that doesn’t mean outdoor weddings are without their challenges. • Alternate Location Plan No one likes rain on their wedding day, but having a backup plan is essential for an outdoor wedding. • Communication Plan Unless your indoor site is in the same place as the outdoor site you’ll need a communication plan for vendors and guests a like. • Staging Area If your wedding and reception are outside is there a nearby

indoor location for you to use to get dressed? • Musician/DJ Needs Do you know what your musicians or DJ need in terms of appropriate shade and temperature control? • Food and Flowers Is your reception outside? Make sure to check with the caterer, baker, and florist about refrigeration needs. • Seating for Elderly Guests You may be having a super quick outdoor wedding ceremony, but some of your guests still need a place to sit. • Tents and Shade If only your ceremony is outside you probably don’t 12

need a tent, but you may want one if you’re worried about sun or rain. • Lighting Is your reception lasting into the wee hours? Do you have the appropriate lighting? • Dance Floor If your reception is outside, you’ll want a portable dance floor. • Hydration You may think you don’t need water available for a short outdoor wedding, what happens if things get delayed? • Bugs Talk to your tent provider about a plan for combatting critters.

honeymoon Thanks to the changing landscape of weddings, today’s newlyweds are typically under more financial stress than the newly married couples of yesteryear. The cost of weddings has risen over the years, and today’s couples are increasingly taking on the bill for their weddings without the help of Mom and Dad. One of the side effects of this shift in how weddings are paid for concerns honeymoons. Whereas a honeymoon was once a tradition enjoyed by all newly married couples, today’s couples often find there’s not much money left to finance honeymoons after paying for their own weddings. But there are ways couples can still enjoy

savings

their dream getaway without breaking the bank. * Shop for all-inclusive packages. An all-inclusive package might be tailormade for couples with thin budgets. All-inclusive packages commonly include lodging, food, activities, and alcohol. This can make a trip considerably more affordable. A couple who just finished paying for their wedding expenses and doesn’t have deep pockets won’t have to worry about how they’re going to eat or enjoy themselves if they find an allinclusive package. * Put the honeymoon off and travel during the off season. Weddings often take place in

warm weather seasons, which also happens to be tourist season. As a result, couples who get married during peak wedding season typically find it hard to book an affordable honeymoon. Thankfully, there’s no rule that says a honeymoon must begin immediately after a couple walks down the aisle. * Consider a shorter trip. Honeymoons don’t have to last a full week. Couples can save considerable amounts of money by choosing a 5-day, 4-night package instead of a week-long trip. Couples who do choose a shorter trip should choose a location that’s close to home so they don’t have to spend significant time traveling.

budget

wedding

Keeping track of everything you spend on your wedding ensures that you stay within your budget. It is also a good idea to determine who is responsible for what portion and to solidify a budget with each contributing individual. Nothing is more stressful than an altercation over the price difference between orchids or tulips - it is best to get the money talks out of the way early on so that everyone can get down to the joyful business of planning the event. The following list includes most, but perhaps not

all, which will need to be considered for an average local wedding ceremony and reception. As with all things, there may be more or less, depending on your personal style, to consider.
