Funding for supportive housing Province to provide capital, operating costs for homelessness project By Tyler Olsen Abbotsford News

The provincial government announced Monday that it will provide $2.4 million in capital costs, as well as annual operating costs, for a 20unit supportive-housing development on Gladys Avenue in Abbotsford. The project will be operated by the Abbotsford Community Services (ACS) Society and will be for men who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Construction is expected to begin next fall. ACS executive director Rod Santiago was overcome with emotion as he spoke about the importance of the project at Monday’s announcement at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium. “Today we’re sending out the message to our friends on the street that you don’t have to have your life figured out before someone decides you deserve to have a roof over your head,” he said. “You have a right to have housing first and now you can exercise that right in Abbotsford.” The property is located on the west side of Gladys Avenue, just north of George Ferguson Way. It received rezoning ap-

The project moved forward despite concern from area residents who spoke at a public hearing about the potential for property crime, the impact on property values, and the proximity of the site to two schools and a residen-

tial area. The mood of Monday’s announcement, though, was full of hope. “It’s a great morning,” Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun. The project, he said, “will provide those who come through their doors with not just housing but the 24/7 stability and support they need to rebuild their lives.” B.C. Housing Minister Rich Coleman, who made the an-

nouncement, spoke of the chance to renew the province’s commitment to providing funding for supportive housing in Abbotsford, despite some hard feelings stemming from a project that was defeated on a tie council vote in February. The province had previously pledged support for a low-barrier supportive housing project for men at 2408 Montvue Ave. across from ACS headquarters. But some neighbouring residents opposed the site, and the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association (ADBA) objected to its location in the C7 zone, a special downtown city area that prohibits supportive-recovery use. “Sometimes, you’ve got to stay focused on what’s important and to do that, you’ve got to put away your own frustrations,” Coleman said. He said ACS’s willingness to again take a leading role was the key factor that allowed it to move forward again. “Their proven combination of experience and programming skills and health staff are going to be a huge benefit to those folks who are stepping up to try and change their lives.”

Creating gift bags a holiday tradition Jane Heuver collects items year round Vikki HOPES Abbotsford News

Jane Heuver of Abbotsford has always had a heart for helping others. She volunteered in Vancouver with a ministry that helped street-trade workers, and celebrated her 65th birthday in Africa, where she visited schools, orphanages and women’s groups. Now 82, the Abbotsford resident continues her giving ways. Heuver, with the help of New Life Christian Reformed Church and several individuals, delivered more than 200 gifts bags this season to people who are less fortunate. It has been an annual holiday tradition for Heuver since about 2006. Throughout the year, she purchases items such as soap, shampoo and socks, and tucks them away for safekeeping. As Christmas approaches, New Life Church also contributes items. This year, a local dentist donated 80 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste.

Heuver also purchases and collects fabric that she turns over to the church for a group of volunteers to sew into bags in which the items are placed. Another group of individuals from Genesis Church bakes hundreds of cookies. Earlier this month, Heuver had some help from a group of girls involved in the

GEMS Club at New Life Church to sort and package about half the bags. The gift bags include socks, mittens, facecloths, knitted tuques (also donated), chewing gum and toiletry items such as deodorant, soap and shampoo. The women’s bags often include items like cosmetic cases, while the men get razors. The cookies are packaged and given separately, so they do not become crushed with the other items. Last week, Heuver dropped off the entire collection of 200 packaged gift bags at the church, which delivered them to Life Recovery Home for women, Joshua House men’s recovery home, homes for people with mental challenges, and to the River Community Church for its outreach program, The Stream. Heuver said she gets much joy out of the project every year. “Many of the people that I meet, they are hurt by other people. I think they should also find healing through people who care.”

Representatives of B.C.’s poultry industry say there should be no concerns about the safety of locally produced turkeys and eggs this holiday season, despite an avian influenza outbreak. “We want to reassure the public that yes, poultry and egg products are safe to eat,” says Ray Nickel, president of the Abbotsford-based BC Poultry Association. “Health Canada has stated there is no evidence that consuming poultry or eggs can transmit the avian influenza virus to humans.” The industry says it’s also been working to prevent prices from rising as demand spikes in advance of Christmas day. “We’ve supplemented our stock with turkeys from other provinces and prices will remain stable,” said Michel Benoit, general manager of BC Turkey Farmers in a press release.

Judge finds man not criminally responsible for June standoff news? witness breaking

An Abbotsford man who fired more than 20 rounds from a rifle during a four-hour standoff with police in June has been found not criminally responsible for his actions. Justin Korelus, 24, admitted to holing up in a bedroom in his mother’s townhouse with several guns, threatening to kill anyone who entered his room, and firing rounds indiscriminately into walls and out the window of the home. No one was injured, but three other townhouses in the complex were struck by gunfire, and bullets were found in a living room, a bathroom and a child’s bedroom closet. Korelus faced seven charges, including assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm dangerous to the public, intentional discharge of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and

MacDonald ordered Korelus to undergo an assessment. On Thursday, with the evaluation complete, he was back in court. In the report, Korelus was described as suffering from “delusional beliefs” at the time of the offence, according to Crown counsel Ross

MacLeod. While a specific diagnosis has not been made, the report said Korelus clearly suffered from an underlying psychotic disorder. Neither Crown nor the defence took issue with the report, leaving MacDonald to declare Korelus not guilty because he was not criminally responsible because of a mental dis-

order. “The conclusion by the psychologist is that the accused did not understand at the time that the acts he undertook were legally and morally wrong,” MacDonald said. The ruling doesn’t mean that Korelus, who has been held at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital since his arrest, will go free. Instead, he will remain at the hospital until such time as the British Columbia Review Board decides he no longer poses a risk to the public. If an accused is found to pose no “significant risk,” he or she must be set free. If there is a risk, the board can either order the person detained or issue a conditional discharge, in which the person can live in the community subject to restrictions. Despite the not-guilty finding, Korelus was handed a five-year firearms prohibition.

Key steps in homeless housing plan When city workers dumped a load of chicken manure on a homeless camp on Gladys Avenue in June of 2013, it shed an extremely negative light on Abbotsford. However, that terribly misguided incident resulted in positive action and changes. City hall and council have since taken a number of proactive steps – albeit with some stumbles – to deal with the chronic issue of homelessness. A short-sighted bylaw banning services such as needle exchanges was rescinded early this year. The availability of clean needles significantly reduces the spread of blood-borne diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis C, the latter which has a high rate in this city, according to the Fraser Health Authority. In the spring, council launched a task force on homelessness, including a range of service providers and other stakeholders. While many of their findings were already known, the group provided the city with a clear plan and identifiable objectives. One of those was to secure health funding for an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team.

That came to fruition earlier this month and will bring support services to hard-to-reach people living with mental health and substance use disorders – prominent factors in homelessness. This week, the city announced a critical achievement in the commitment of millions of dollars of provincial funding for a supportive housing project. This money was already in place for some time, but was seriously jeopardized when a council vote in Febuary failed to support a low-barrier housing project in downtown Abbotsford. Since then, the city rezoned a property on Gladys Avenue for a similar facility, and now has the funding required to move forward on the project. Frankly, we were skeptical that Victoria would give Abbotsford a second chance. Perhaps the progress being made on this issue in this city helped the decision. In the past two years, the city has deserved criticism for its treatment of the homeless. Now it deserves praise and support. We look forward to this momentum continuing.

Other Hand Did up you know that in Alberta alone there are more than 450,000 oil and gas wells? That’s more holes than in a block of Swiss cheese the size of my house. Virtually the entire province of Alberta is underlain with shale gas, as is half of Saskatchewan and a fairly good chunk of northeastern B.C. When you look at a map of the reserves throughout North America, Canada appears to be the major player – if we were selling the gas. But we’re not, at least not in a big way. Maybe we need to have a drawl to be large in the oil and gas business. Gas reserves in Texas pale in comparison to those in Canada, but right now they dominate because they are quickly tapping into international markets while we can’t seem to get a pipe into the ground, at least one that ships product

for sale overseas. In Texas the oil market is king. In British Columbia (and it seems in the rest of Canada), everything but the financial bottom line is vastly more important. Until, of course, the money flow ceases, along with health care benefits, welfare, transit, parks, hospitals, education and anything else you want to credit with the lifestyle we live. Everyone decries the social network in the U.S., and I agree that for the poor it is appallingly inadequate, and health care incredibly expensive. Yet in Canada, we have done a reasonably good job of trying to take care of everyone. Yes, there’s poverty, and to a lesser degree discrimination. But on the whole we do things differently here: we care about people, we try not to offend and we go to great lengths to accommodate. It matters not what life is like for the average Texan, or the average Saudi, though I am led to believe it is good. What matters to me is the average Canadian. And to maintain what we have here, we need to be able to com-

pete, deliver and reap the bounty of what we have. I do, however, have concerns about the environmental legacy we may be leaving behind if we don’t exploit our resources properly. For example, we must be cautious

We have been pumping massive amounts of dangerous stuff into the ground, without really knowing where it will eventually end up... with how we seal and secure abandoned wells and the potential lasting effects of those actions if done wrong. According to a recent study by the University of Victoria’s Environmental Law Centre, some 41 billion litres of waste water was pumped into a single well near Fort Nelson in northeast B.C. That much water, and I hate these quantifying comparisons, is enough to fill 16,700 Olympic swimming pools!

This was not clean water, but fluid contaminated with all sorts of compounds, possibly including lead, arsenic and radio-active materials. Additionally, since oil and gas production began in the western Canadian Sedimentary Basin underlying the prairies of Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia, enough waste water and industrial fluids have been pumped into it to fill a lake 21 kilometres long, one km deep and one km wide. We have been pumping massive amounts of dangerous stuff into the ground, without really knowing where it will eventually end up – like in the aquifer. That’s a possibility, since “fracking’” – short for fracturing the rock in search of gas – is also creating small earthquakes, something like 38 of them in northeastern B.C. between 2009 and 2012. * Much of the statistical information provided above was gleaned from stories by Margaret Munro, published in the Vancouver Sun, Dec. 11. letters More clarity on MMBC Authorities ought to be ashamed of themselves

MMBC may be industry led but the leaders are only a few mega-corporations from Ontario, and there is no representation for many medium sized businesses who have no possible way of complying. Only about one-quarter of one per cent of the businesses in B.C. have signed up and they are supposed to cover the $100,000,000 annual cost. Those businesses will have to raise their prices and it is unlikely that taxes will be lowered so residents will pay more. Many businesses have no influence on the packaging on the products they sell so this program will not reduce packaging materials. According to MMBC numbers, some businesses would pay more to recycle their flyers than it costs to produce them. The BC SPCA is reminding pet guardians that the holidays – and colder weather – can be hazardous for pets. “We want everyone to

Holiday pet safety tips include: Q Bones are bad: Avoid giving bones to your dogs or cats, particularly turkey bones. Poultry

Remember to keep these plants out of reach of pets – especially birds. Poinsettias are not poisonous to pets or people. Q Tinsel is trouble: Having a Christmas tree

Jack’s Towing in Abbotsford is offering a service for New Year’s Eve revelers, while raising funds for Matthew’s House. Liam Brennan and Jill Dowse, who have owned Jack’s Towing since 2010, and manager Dave Rahberger wanted to find a way to do something positive and give back to their community. They came upon the idea of towing cars home on New Year’s Eve. “If you’re caught driving drunk, your car is going to be towed anyway,” Brennan said. “So we thought why not encourage people to get home safe by providing them and their car with a secure ride home.” They also wanted to support a charity in their community, and chose Matthew’s House, which provides respite care for children with complex health-care needs.

Changes coming to council meetings, committees

Abbotsford’s new city council has introduced changes to meetings,

both for the council and city committees, aimed at streamlining the process and increasing discussion.

Council approved plans to reduce the number of advisory committees – often comprised of council-

lors, city staff and community representatives – from 20 to eight. Mayor Henry Braun said the new commit-

tees will still cover the same mandates as the previous ones, but the new structure is more efficient, freeing up the

time of staff and council to do other work. He said in some cases the new committees eliminate overlaps.

The city previously had separate committees to cover agriculture, Matsqui diking and the Sumas diking commission, which are now combined into one. “The notion of the two diking commissions is pre-amalgamation. This is 19 years later, I think we need to wrap some of this up and finish those amalgamations that haven’t taken place yet.” The new committees cover agriculture, diking, drainage and irrigation; development; homelessness; intergovernmental affairs; shared services; parks, recreation and culture; public safety; and transportation. At the council meeting on Monday, city manager George Murray said environmental sustainability and creating a vibrant economy will be built into all council policies, and will therefore be an “overarching belief of council throughout all committees.” The 2015 schedule for council will also include a new public meeting. Council meets every second Monday, but now on the alternate weeks council will meet for a “shirt-sleeves session.” Braun said the meetings will be open to the public and will be more informal, providing an opportunity for a more robust discussion of issues before they come to council. He said in the past, councillors often wouldn’t know the thoughts and opinions of their colleagues until the issue was at the table. Now they will have that same discussion in open session, and can hear from one another so when the issue comes forward they have a better understanding, he said. Braun said that doesn’t mean decisions will already be made by the time they come to council. At regular meetings, he will encourage councillors to ask questions for their benefit and the publics, as well as express their opinions. He said when there is no discussion at council “the public wonders whether we’ve made the decision behind closed doors – which isn’t true.”

PST hike for transit may push shoppers east Jeff NAGEL Black Press

A 0.5 per cent additional sales tax levied just in Metro Vancouver would spur more consumers to shop outside the region, raising questions over how the proposed tax will be implemented. So-called “leakage” of spending east to the Fraser Valley or south to the U.S. is a concern, Metro mayors admit, and is likely to be most acute for businesses in areas close to the TransLink boundaries – Langley, Maple Ridge and South Surrey. “One group that should be in favour is the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce,” said Jordan Bateman of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. “They should be popping champagne corks right now. The Bellingham Chamber of Commerce should be over the moon.” The proposed tax will go to a regional referendum in the spring if the province consents. Metro board chair Greg Moore questions how many residents

would spend 30 minutes extra in traffic to save $5 on a $1,000 new TV. But the extra half point PST would add $175 to the cost of a $35,000 car and New Car Dealers Association of B.C. president Blair Qualey says that could be enough to push some business out of the region. “Even a half point can make a difference competitively if you’re on one side of the line or not. People will drive down to the U.S. to save $3 on a brick of cheese or carton of milk.” He said the PST hike, if approved, would be a particular blow to several new luxury car dealerships that have just been built in Langley by dealers unaware such a tax was coming. Qualey also wonders if the tax would will be tacked on to the private vehicle sales tax on used cars. He’d like vehicle purchases to be exempted altogether from any new sales tax for transit and will raise that with the province. “The devil’s in the details and we don’t know whether it’s well

thought out or sound or anything at this point,” he said, adding car dealers haven’t been consulted. Mayors council chair Richard Walton said a blanket exemption for vehicles is one option that may be considered. Alternatively, he said, Metro Vancouverites might be charged the new tax on vehicles based on their residency, forcing them to pay the extra half point even if they buy in the Fraser Valley. “That’s up for the province to decide,” Walton said. Tr a n s p o r t a t i o n Minister Todd Stone said leakage is a concern for businesses in areas such as Langley, adding the province needs to consider how to address those concerns. The tax would make Metro Vancouver the first region in Canada where residents pay more sales tax than the rest of their province. But other differential taxes in the region already distort business. An annual levy of $170 on every registered vehicle was also considered and rejected, because its estimated impact on the average household was higher – $230 per year – and was seen as unfairly punishing just one group of users: drivers. Families with two or more vehicles would have paid more than average, likely hitting households in areas with poor transit service the hardest. Raising the PST half a point is estimated to cost the poorest households less than $50 annually. That lower estimate is because existing PST exemptions would also apply on the sales tax increase for transit. The typical Metro Vancouver home already pay $250 a year in property tax to TransLink, on top of municipal property taxes, and mayors refuse to rely more heavily on that source. They do still aim to pursue a road pricing system over the longer term that would reform the current practice of tolling one new bridge at a time. The PST increase would, if approved by voters, take effect around April 2016. The referendum requires a 50 per cent plus one majority across the region to pass.

Crackdown on dirty diesel rigs Jeff NAGEL Black Press

Metro Vancouver is increasing fees charged to run older soot-spewing diesel machines such as excavators, forklifts and generators as part of an ongoing effort to cut local air pollution. The most heavily polluting “Tier 0” engines – typically built before 2000 – will cost their owners more to operate in 2015 and any that aren’t yet registered with Metro by Jan. 1 will be banned from ever operating in the region again, punishable by fines of up to $200,000. Fees to run the worst off-road diesel equipment were introduced two years ago and Metro is stepping them up each year, while offering rebates to retire or upgrade those engines to cleaner models. An old 120-horsepower excavator that was charged $480 when the program started faces an annual fee of $1,200 in 2015, doubling again to $2,400 by 2017, although the fee can be greatly reduced if a filter is added to cut emissions. The strategy is working, said Ray Robb, Metro’s environmental regulation and enforcement division manager. Several thousand diesel machines that were subject to fees have been retired or upgraded, he said. But 2,600 are still registered in the region and subject to fees. Particulate from diesel exhaust is considered to be one of the most dangerous air contaminants to human health, increasing cancer risk.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. The panel report said lack of access for drug and alcohol addiction treatment was “a major issue” it heard across the province, and was told that in Port Hardy, for example, 500 people needed treatment but there were only six treatment beds. “The lack of funding for abstinence-based and other recovery support programs was described as a serious issue everywhere and as one of the main reasons for the high rates of recidivism observed across the province amongst offenders suffering from substance abuse disorder.” The report recommends spending more money on drug addiction treatment and mental health services, citing estimates that every dollar spent curing addiction cuts drug related-crime and justice costs by up to $7, and $12 if health care costs are counted. The report also calls for a task force to probe problems with the proliferation of unlicensed and sometimes “predatory” drug recovery houses. It noted there are 240 drug recovery houses in the Fraser Health region but just eight are properly licensed. Jail doesn’t stop persistent offenders, the report said, adding it’s “particularly ineffective” with the severely addicted or mentally ill. More than two-thirds of offenders in the corrections system in 2012 were repeat offenders, and 40 per cent had 10 or more convictions. Police have been targeting prolific offenders as pilot projects for several years in Surrey, Prince George, Williams Lake, Kamloops, Victoria and Nanaimo. The re-offence rate of those those career criminals dropped 40 per cent in the first year after release, while more of them took up offers of housing and social services, and had less contact with police. The report recommends that approach be taken province-wide, noting crime rates in B.C. have fallen faster than anywhere else in North America, in part because of crime reduction strategies.

Then, at 19:31 of the second frame Abbotsford regained the lead when Methorst scored his eighth of the year, with Alexander Methorst and Hayden Guilderson assisting. “It was just hard work by those two,” said Pilots head coach Jim Cowden. “Guilderson got him the puck and he had a nice low, hard shot. The goalie didn’t have much chance, just bang, out of the corner and bang, right into the net.” The visitors outshot the Ice Hawks 10-4 in the middle frame, so getting that late goal was huge. “We played well the whole period,” said Cowden. “We limited them to four shots. So it’s nice to get a reward.” However, just 51 seconds into the third period Delta knotted the game 3-3. “In the third we got in a bit of penalty trouble,” said Cowden. “They didn’t score on one of those but did get early power plays.” The Pilots had a trio of late power plays of their own, and capitalized with 62 seconds remaining, when the team’s captain netted his 12th of the season. “Kolton Grieve got the puck on the halfwall and Lawler got open in the high slot,” said Cowden. “He passed it to [Lawlor] and had a nice shot, top corner.” After missing almost a month of action, Lawlor now had three goals and one assist in three games. “He’s a big physical player, big, strong, and he’s got some finesse to his game and even some grit,” said Cowden. “He adds a lot to our team and makes some of the smaller guys play bigger.” With a roster that has struggled with injury troubles throughout the year, Cowden is looking forward to the Christmas break. “Then we’ll get healthy and hopefully get a couple defencemen back,” said Cowden. Alexander Methorst was playing his first game in 32 days, and the team is still without Trent Huitema and Devon Beckers.

Neil (Cornelius) We mourn the loss of a true gentleman. Neil (Cornelius) Hamm passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014, in the presence of loved ones, at the age of 83. Neil was born on November 19, 1931 in Schoenau, Ukraine. He and his family endured a difficult journey from Ukraine to freedom in Canada via Germany in 1948. In 1960 he moved to the US making his home in San Jose, CA. He began his career as a machinist, and later became a co-owner of K&K Manufacturing. Neil and his partner were integral in the early commercial development of Dell Avenue in Campbell CA, and he remained active in real estate until his passing. Neil loved golf and travelling the world. He was known to be fair, generous and kind. He had a discerning palette and love of good wine. He was devoted to his family. Because of these things he leaves behind many valued friends near and far - from the Almaden Country Club where he once served as Club President, to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Winnipeg, Canada. Neil is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Hamm, and by siblings Mariechen and Franz in childhood. He is also preceded by his daughter Cheryl (Chambers) De la Torre and her infant son. Neil is survived by his sister Helen Wiebe and brother John Hamm and wife Elma of Canada and their families; daughters Tracy Bezmalinovic and husband John and Christine Johnson; granddaughters Samantha Martinez, Sierra Johnson, Ana Karina De la Torre and Mia Bezmalinovic. He is also survived by son-in-law Joaquin De la Torre, wife Mandy and son Evan; and his stepson Eric Chambers. He is lovingly remembered by his long time companion Helene Dyck and her children. Neil wished to thank Ruth and Jim Heisch for their unending friendship. At Neil’s request no services will be held. His ashes will be taken to the final resting place of his parents in Canada. A celebration of life will be held in the New Year. As a friend recently said, ‘The world would be a better place if there were more Neil Hamms in it.’

Jim is survived by his wife Robyn Sward, children Linsay (Dave) Ogden, Brandon (Leah) Ferguson-Sward and Bryce Sward, grandchildren Zoey, Silas Ferguson-Sward and Amelie Ogden, brother Robert Sward, sister Kelley (Chet) Powell, mom Elaine Sward, mother-in-law Bertha Smith, sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Jim was predeceased by his dad Douglas in 2014. Jim worked at CCA, KPMG, Winde Pacific Meeker Cedar, Belevue Hotel and Anglo American Cedar, he was a member of Rotary, Fraser Health Mission, the hospital board, Ducks Unlimited, and the Rod & Gun Club Rigedale, he also enjoyed 20 years of scouting, coaching soccer, lacrosse and the Roadrunners basketball team. Service will be held January 4, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, followed by refreshments downstairs, a Celebration of Life will be held at Stage (Bellevue) 1st Ave., Mission at 5:00 pm. In honour of their dad, Jim’s children request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hope Central, Fraser House Society or Scouts Canada (4th Mission Scouts ~ Jim Sward Memorial).

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, after a lengthy, courageous battle with Leukemia. Bernice was born in Winnipeg Beach to George and Christina Gray and spent her youth growing up in Manitoba. After marriage, starting a family and a successful career in Real Estate in Winnipeg, Bernice, Al and family moved to Abbotsford in 1980 settling here until her recent passing. Bernice was the glue to her family in countless ways. Ever the caretaker to all, giving unconditionally of her love, time and talents. She will be missed beyond words can express. Taken too soon, she leaves behind her devoted, loving husband of 50 years Al Otto, her children Sandy (Teri-Lynn) Otto, Randy (Shelley) Otto, Gina (Darren) Chard, and Kara (Chris) Collins, along with their families including 10 grandchildren: Lindsay, Brittney & Randi; Jordan (Mark), Alex, Trenton, Jessica, Kristina, Alissa and Jacob, and great granddaughter Hannah. Bernice’s greatest joy was sharing life with her family and many friends and was most fondly know as “Grammi” to many family and non-family alike. Bernice and Al enjoyed extensive travel around the world with family and friends making many more friends along the way, wherever their travels took them. Also grieving her loss is brother Tommy and family, along with cousins, nieces and nephews and many dear, close friends. The comfort of our loss is the knowing of heaven’s gain. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to each and every staff member of Christine Morrison Hospice for the special care and attention Bernice received in the last 4 months her life there. A Celebration of Life, open to all, will be held on January 2, 2015 at Trinity Memorial United Church, 33737 George Ferguson Way in Abbotsford, BC at 2:00 pm.
