Lighting up a Christmas tree can help save orphaned bear cubs possible. • The Grizzly pilot Project is run in partnership with IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) and
the BC Government) • Why so many cubs this year: The dry summer across BC has created a food shortage for many bears as the berry
crop did not fare well in the heat. In search for food more bears crossed highways or wandered into towns.

Orphaned bear cubs and adults at the Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter. Submitted A small northern BC Wildlife Shelter is hoping to pull a string of light through our Province as they embark on yet another long distance bear rescue. A small grizzly cub in Golden has been captured by Conservation Officer Alex Desjardins and is now seeking to spend the winter at Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter (NLWS) in Smithers. Shelter founders Angelika & Peter Langen took the 17 hour drive to Golden recently, in a borrowed truck as their own truck is no longer deemed safe on long distances
and funds for a newer vehicle are lacking. In order to help with the expenses of housing, feeding rescuing and releasing the animals Dorothy Avery of Toronto started a campaign of lights in 2011. The aim is to light up the x-mas tree (decorated by NLWS in front of the Smithers Feed Store) by x-mas eve. The shelter is currently home to 30 Black Bears and soon 5 grizzlies from all over BC, all are cubs of this year

Every $25 raised will light up another bulb, helping them save orphaned cubs in dire need of rescue. History • NLWS is a registered Charity and all donations receive a tax receipt • Founded in 1990
NLWS has accepted 329 bears over the years including 17 grizzlies and 3 Kermode bears. 90% of these cubs have been released back to the wild • NLWS is not funded by the Government and is run on volunteer labour • The current cub in Golden weighs only about 20lb where it should be around 70lb this time of year. Premier Christy Clark on climate, clawbacks and credit cards
B.C. Views by Tom Fletcher TF: Are you still confident that we’re going to see a major LNG project approved by the end of 2014? PCC: We’re still in negotiations with Petronas and Shell, so I don’t know if it will be by the end of 2014, but I’m hoping in the next few months. [Days after this interview, Petronas announced a delay in their investment decision until 2015.] TF: I talked to a couple of SFU climate mitigation specialists, and they agreed that it’s unlikely to the point of impossible to have
a major LNG industry and still meet Gordon Campbell’s ambitious greenhouse gas target of a 33 per cent reduction by 2020. What do you think? PCC: I think that we may prove them wrong. Many of these facilities, not all of them, will be partly or fully electrically powered up, so that reduces those impacts, and there’s going to be a real incentive to invest in new technology to minimize that as well. I think the bigger picture is what really matters, which is that in shipping 82 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas to Asia, we help them get off coal and other dirtier sources of oil, and that is the biggest contribution that we’ve ever made to reducing climate change. TF: Ontario and Quebec have taken a page from your book. They have seven condi-
tions for an oil pipeline, Energy East, which involves conversion of gas pipelines and taking Alberta oil to the East Coast. What do you think? PCC: I think they took our five conditions and elaborated on them. So you’ve got British Columbia, Alberta, now Ontario and Quebec, all signed on to some version of the five conditions. And of course Enbridge and Kinder Morgan as well. TF: What about the conditions they have added? PCC: One of the things they say they want to protect against is a shortage of natural gas coming to Ontario and Quebec. These are the same two provinces that have put a moratorium on extracting natural gas. They want to make sure that we do it here, good enough for us to do, and send it to them, but they won’t do that themselves. I look
at their last two conditions, and I roll my eyes a little bit. TF: All the way to New Brunswick, they’ve basically bought the anti-hydraulic fracturing myth? PCC: Yes. Somehow they all watched an American mockumentary or whatever you call it, and believed it. Here in British Columbia we do fracking better than anywhere in the world. It is the gold standard. TF: Finance Minister Mike de Jong says we have a surplus estimated at more than $400 million for this fiscal year, and he suggested that much of that would have to go to pay off deficits from previous years. Of course the opposition is interested in welfare rates and in particular ending child support clawbacks. What’s your view? PCC: Like any family that’s been through tough times, the first thing you need to do

Premier Christy Clark in her Victoria office after the fall legislature session passed new tax and environmental rules for natural gas exports. when you get back to finding a job and making an income again, is to pay off your credit cards. And that’s what we’re going to do. We are going to see if we can find ways to
improve some of the programs over time, but can’t do that until we can afford it. It’s typical, the NDP want us to spend the money before we have it.

10 Neat Things by Top Crop Garden, Farm & Pet
Christmas Cactus
And Other Holiday Plants
1. Renewed Energy. There’s a reason why decorating with fresh greens and seasonal fruits, nuts and berries for the holidays has as much appeal today as it did in winter festivals of times long past. Garland of evergreen branches, sprigs of berries and potted holiday plants speak of our desire for something living in the dead of winter and our hope for the return of spring. 2. A Tropical Christmas. A native of the rainforests in Brazil, the Zygo cactus - also known as Christmas cactus or its scientific name Schlumbergera - has become a colourful messenger of cheer during the holiday season. Its flowers come in a wide range of translucent colors such as white, yellow, orange, pink and red. They last about one week and one plant can often put on a great show for up to three weeks. 3. From Desert to Winter Wonderland. In the wild, Zygo cactus anchors itself to a tree or a rock, collecting moisture from the air and rainwater, so while the plant likes humidity, it really does not care for having its roots wet constantly. Blooming plants should be watered to keep an evenly moist soil, but you should allow the top inch to dry out between watering. Christmas cactus can also benefit from being placed on a humidifying tray or slight misting. 4. Blooms on Cue. Christmas cactus is a photosensitive plant. The blossoms are triggered by the shortening of days and a drop in temperature. About six to eight weeks before you want the cactus to bloom, start withdrawing light for 12 hours. Bring the plant into a brighter area when buds start to form while avoiding any direct sunlight. 5. A Tradition for Many Years to Come. The Schlumbergera is a long-lived plant with a lifespan that can be measured in decades. It is also quite easily grown from cuttings. Simply take two to three segments of your plant and stick them into a soil mix the same as that of the parent. You should get roots in two to three weeks. 6. Feliz Navidad! Another Christmas blooming favourite also comes to us from much warmer climates. Native to Central America and Mexico, the poinsettia was first brought to North America in the 1820s as a clipping by Joel Robert Poinsett, an American ambassador to Mexico. Eventually, the brightly coloured plant was named in his honour. 7. Green and Red, and White and Pink,... The natural colour of poinsettias is red and this remains the most popular choice. Thanks to breeding, however, today they are available in white, pink, peach and even yellow and with speckled, marbled and crinkled leaves. 8. Don’t Drink Too Much. Taking care of already blooming poinsettias throughout the holiday season is quite easy. The greatest danger is overwatering the plant, so a good guideline is to give it a good drink of water once the leaves are just starting to droop. Poinsettias should not be kept in the pretty covers they often get sold in as this can also hinder excess water from draining away from the plant. 9. From Druids to Christmas. One of the plants with the longest history in holiday decorating is the holly. Regarded by the druids of ancient Britain as a sacred plant and used in winter celebrations, the tradition of hanging boughs of holly in the home was adopted by early Christians at Christmas time. Holly is marked by its distinctive, deep green and prickly leaves as well as the crimson coloured berries. 10. Small Scale Christmas. If you are looking for a modern touch for holiday decoration, but still want to somewhat fit into the Christmas theme, some more unique plants might be your answer. Norfolk pine is an indoor plant that looks like a miniature Christmas Tree and lemon cypress makes great little “trees” for fairy gardens or holiday centrepieces.

Making the season merrier Submitted
It seems the Cranbrook Garden Club has a few of their own elves not sitting on a shelf but bringing their magic to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. In the spring and summer their green thumbs brighten up the flower boxes surrounding the hospital parking lot and making the cafeteria outdoor seating area an
oasis for a welcomed break by staff and visitors. This Christmas a group of the elves had their green thumbs turn into gingerbread fingers bringing a unique themed tree to the lobby of the regional hospital. Led by April Lund, Head Elf & Tree Designer, a quarry of elves (April, Pat Bailey, Linda Muraro, Debbie Sinclair and Janice Collins) have created a stunning
holiday tree for all to enjoy. “The theme was created with two ideas,” explains April Lund. “We have cheery little gingerbread people encouraging donations to EKFH’s ICU campaign and a variety of children’s toys that recognize that wonders of Christmas through a child’s eyes.” The Cranbrook Garden Club is made up of well over 200 members and has been in existence since

Instead of presents, Carter and Katie chose to take donations for the Food Bank.
Birthdays bring presents for Food Bank On Sunday, December 7th at Cranbrook United Church, these little citizens made all of us so proud. Not only did all
the friends attending bring in loads of food bank items they also had a few parents go into the food bank separately
www.kootenayadvertiser.com A9 and drop of perishable items to be given out directly from the food bank. Each child was extremely happy to add their bags of food to the mix. Our church congregation added our regular food bank collection from our first Sunday of the month. All the parents were elated that Carter (Thistle) and Katie (Ashe) chose to give rather than to receive. Their parents are already planning next year’s party I am sure. Carter and Katie delivered to the food bank on Monday, December 8th a total of $675 worth of food plus the few that direct delivered. And as humble as these kids are, Katie did receive a Walmart gift card from one of her close friends,
to which she got really excited and told her mom that now she could buy a nice gift for her
teacher. It is hearing and seeing unselfish acts that help all of us decide to be a
better person. God bless each of these children. As a note Carter’s gramma from Central
Newfoundland arrived in time to watch her grandson give graciously.

Meet the top Dress for the Cause fundraisers in the country
Photo submitted
Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants raised more than $13,000 for breast cancer research, making them the highest grossing fundraisers for Dress for the Cause, a national Breast Cancer Society event. Submitted As the highest grossing fundraisers for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada’s national event, Dress for the Cause, the staff of Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants were awarded with a $5,000 donation in their name to the local cancer treatment centre of their choice. Dress for the Cause is an annual fundraiser held by the Breast Cancer Society of Canada during October’s breast cancer awareness month. Workplaces all across Canada are asked to dress down, dress in pink, and donate to breast cancer research. Staff members host fundraisers such as bake sales, head shaves, and BBQs to raise money for breast cancer research in Canada. Raising more than $13,000, the staff of Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants have made a very significant contribution to Dress for the Cause which expects to raise approximately $750,000 among the thousands of Canadian workplaces participating. Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants chose to direct their $5000.00 award to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital Oncology Fund. The oncology unit is a regional center serving the communities of Cranbrook, Kimberley, the Elk Valley, the Columbia Valley, Creston and Golden. “This gift is an incredible gift of support for anyone receiving a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. This gift will definitely impact the lives of others and just like the passion shown in the Dress for the Cause its allocation to our foundation is extremely humbling. Our foundation is cur-
rently stewarding funds for an enhancement of the oncology unit over the next several
years,” explains Donna Grainger, Executive Director of the East Kootenay Foundation
for Health. “We were very happy and shocked from the response we got from the fundraising. The generosity of our friends, family and those in the community was just overwhelming. The whole event was a lot of fun and everyone in the office really enjoyed taking part in it,” explains Mike Adams, partner at Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants. “I chose to participate in the Dress for the Cause campaign as I have watched too many of my family and friends battle this disease and would like to see a cure found to
end breast cancer. I am proud to be part of the Taylor Adams team and very grateful for my family and friend who supported me with raising funds for this cause,” explains Penny Coyle of Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants. “I’m proud to be a member of this team and having seen so many people that are affected by this disease we can hope that every dollar we raised can bring us one step closer to a cure,” states Brenda Wolfram of Taylor
Adams Chartered Accountants. “My husband received chemotherapy treatment from the Cranbrook Oncology Unit from May to October of this year. This donation means a lot to us because we have seen that there is a great need for improvements to help make the unit more comfortable for the medical staff and the patients coping with all types of cancer,” states Kim Wood, employee of Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants.
A team approach to fighting breast cancer is a vision that Marsha Davidson, Executive Director of the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, promotes. She states, “The Breast Cancer Society of Canada is proud to fund new ideas and new solutions. We exist to save lives and we could not achieve this without help from dedicated and generous people across Canada like the employees of Taylor Adams Chartered Accountants.”

Hugs: I too would like to send out big Hugs to all the BC Hydro employees that worked non stop over the weekend after the big storm ravaged our little town of Elko! They were out there in horrid temps and insane winds until they got us all back up and running! There was much devastation in our community from trees on power lines, yards, fences and a couple of homes! You all were amazing! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Slugs: A big fat slimy slug to the publishers of the recently received Telus phone book. It is narrower & shorter, but the print is so small, it’s hard to read…even with a magnifying glass! Hugs: Big hugs to Brian for plowing out our driveway during the recent heavy snowfall. Gratefully appreciated!
Cranbrook Fellowship Baptist Church
Slugs: On November 29 our biggest snowfall to date. A big slimy slug to the crew who maintain our roads. On Monday, Dec 1, on the strip, no sanding done at all. And there should be a follow up sanding done at intersections, some have not even been done yet. After a heavy snowfall, no safe driving in the East Kootenays.
First Baptist Church
Hugs: A huge hug to all the BC Hydro guys that worked very hard and long, to get power back on for all the houses in Elko. You guys rock!

Boston Pizza! I said “thank you young man” and he said “you’re welcome”. I think he was only around 5 years old! Thank you and hugs to his parents for bringing up such a polite child......... Slugs: Giant ugly slimy SLUGS to the Wal Mart shoppers that do not take the time to put their carts in the buggy corrals in the parking lot!!! I wonder how you will feel someday when you have to get out and park a cart because someone left it in a parking space that you wanted to park in......MERRY CHRISTMAS! Hugs: A great big hug to Kal Tire for your exceptional service and always fixing my TPMS whenever we change our tires at no charge and no appointment when you are always busy! I thank you! Hugs: To the neighbor(s) that shovel the neighbors drive and walk way that is in hospital battling cancer, you are the true meaning of Christmas. Hugs: “Thank you” to the mother and her lovely daughter, for giving my friend and me 2 tickets to the Aaron Meyer performance at Key City Theater, Tuesday, Dec 2. It was very much appreciated!! Slugs: Huge slug to the person who trespassed on private property to take home a blue spruce tree for Christmas. Our hope is that you can live with yourself and be honest with your family when they ask you where you got the beautiful tree. Very disappointed in mankind during a season of joy, caring & sharing! Hugs: A million giant hugs to the lady and two men who came to my aid when I slipped and fell on ice at the Superstore Tues Dec 9th. Thank you so much for helping my husband get me back on my feet again and getting me into the store! I can’t say thank you enough!
Hugs: A big giant enormous wonderful hug to the little boy that held the door open for me on Friday at If you have a Hug or a Slug...we’d like to hear it. Simply email us at shannon@kootenayadvertiser.com with your short quips, compliments or complaints. We will print the anonymous submissions for all to see. Be honest, but all we ask is you keep it tasteful. Hugs and Slugs will be printed as space allows, if we miss yours check back next week and you will be bumped to the start of the list. You can also drop by a written submission to our office at 1510 2nd Street N. or call Shannon at (250)489-3455 or 1-800-665-2382

That’s why Dairy Queen is running Angels Anonymous. Bring a smile to an underprivileged child’s face this Christmas. Just take an Angels Anonymous card from the tree in any Dairy Queen store. Buy a suitable gift and return it – unwrapped, with the card – to Dairy Queen before December 22. Short-term certifications such as Food Safe or Occupational First Aid are also offered. Work experiences will occur the last 4 weeks of the program; however, they are subject to availability of employers. Participants travelling from Kimberley, Invermere and Fernie are provided with a small travel allowance. “The goal of the program is to provide participants with life skills and employment skills to find long-term, sustainable employment” states Lori Bender, Administrator of Employment Services. Persons on regular IA (Income Assistance) or PWD (Persons with Disabilities) designation are eligible for training funds and will experience dollar for dollar deductions; however, the enhanced knowledge, skills and certifications gained will be beneficial for all job seekers. The feedback from past participants continues to be very positive and everyone walks away with new skills. Each training session has a maximum of 12 seats, so early registration is best. Training starts January 6 2015. Contact Job Options BC today to register and determine eligibility 250-426-5222 ext 3026 or joboptions@ cmhakootenays.org . bAnkruPtcy? rEPOssEssiOn? bAD crEDit? HigH intErEst?
Verdict Hyundai has done it again, delivering a very attractive car, full of features, at an attractive price. 2.4L models range from $23,999 to $32,999 in the top Limited trim. This model has most of the features found in the top 2.0L turbo but without the added power. The base 2.0L turbo starts at $30,999 and the top Ultimate model, seen here, is $34,799. Both the Limited and Ultimate get the forward collision warning system and lane departure safety features, plus they also get adaptive cruise control. For 2015, the Sonata is a big step foreword in design. The added safety features will be attractive and the constant pushing-of-the-envelope from Hyundai is welcome. The Lowdown Power: 2.4L 185hp or 2.0L Turbo with 245hp Fill-up: 9.8L/6.7L/100km (city/highway) Sticker price: $23.999-$34,799 zack.spencer@drivewaybc.ca
Drive Both the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine and the 2.0L turbo have been carried over from the last model but they have been modified to produce better torque delivery and fuel economy. Hyundai has dropped the horsepower output from 198hp to 185hp in the 2.4L and limited the torque to 178hp. The 2.0L turbo also receives a horsepower drop from 274hp to 245hp and the torque drops from 268 lb.-ft to 160 lb.-ft. Hyundai claims that the torque is lower in the RPM range and the fuel consumption is improved. The experience behind the wheel of the turbo is still very invigorating but not as hectic as the last model, it delivers a more usable driving experience. Power is smooth and refined; the turbo feels like a V6 without the accompanying fuel bill.

Hello winter, my old friend By Ian Harwood The rain and windstorms have started and it won’t be long before the temperatures start to dip. Northern BC and the Interior have already experienced the cold. At the coast, it seems every year the first snowfall creates
chaos and adjusting to the conditions is a big challenge for many people. That said; driving in the winter season generally presents more problems than driving in other seasons wherever you call home. The vehicle and the driver must be prepared as well as possible to cope with these
kinds of driving conditions. In winter driving, braking and stopping the vehicle, of course, cause the most difficult moments. The tires play a critical role in stopping the vehicle, and they need even more care and attention than in the other seasons. Most SUVs have a passen-
ger car tire classification with M+S stamped on the sidewall, for Mud and Snow and are considered all-season tires. If it is not, your vehicle must be fitted with tires suitable for any type of climate, even the most severe ones. In winter the pressure of the tire must also be controlled more frequently. This is because a reduction of the
outside temperature causes a contraction of the air inside the tire, accelerating the normal and gradual pressure loss process by a value around 1-2 PSI for each 5° C decrease in temperature. Contrary to popular opinion, a lower inflation pressure than normal does not improve tire traction on snow. It makes them much more liable to

damage. Always remember that in any season and with any temperature, insufficient pressure is always the main cause of tire damage. Here is some advice to always bear in mind it is during winter driving conditions: Use brakes carefully. Brake early. Brake correctly. It takes more time and distance to stop in icy conditions. Watch for slippery bridge decks, even when the rest of the pavement is in good condition. Bridge decks will ice up sooner than the pavement. Do not use the cruise control in winter conditions. Even roads that appear clear can have sudden slippery spots and the short touch of your brakes to deactivate the cruise control feature can cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Don’t get overconfident in your 4x4 vehicle. Remember that your four-wheel drive vehicle may help you get going quicker than other vehicles but it won’t help you stop any faster. Many 4x4 vehicles are heavier than passenger vehicles and actually may take longer to stop. Don’t get overconfident in your 4x4 vehicle’s traction. Your 4x4 can lose traction as quickly as a two-wheel drive vehicle. If your vehicle is equipped with anti-lock brakes, do not pump them in attempting to stop. The right way is to step on the brake pedal and steer against the slide. Look further ahead in traffic than you normally do. Actions by cars and trucks will alert you more quickly to problems and give you a split second extra time to react safely. ian.harwood@drivewaybc.ca

Peter Ferguson, 1931 - 2014 It is with sadness that the family of Peter Ferguson announces his passing on the morning of December 6, 2014, at the age of 83. He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Doris Ferguson. Peter was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1931 and at the age of 15 began his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker. In 1951, Peter immigrated to Canada and settled in Cranbrook where he was a self-employed cabinetmaker his entire working life. His woodworking is installed in many Cranbrook homes and public facilities. After retirement, Peter turned his joinery skills to wonderfully intricate wooden toys and small-scale models and a collection of his models was displayed at the Cranbrook Public Library in 2012. He enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and adored his little dog, Sport. He was also an avid angler who could boast that he took at least one or two trout from every local lake, river, and creek. Peter is lovingly remembered by his children Duncan Ferguson (Jane), Adele Simpson (Bob), and Deanna Ferguson (Darren); and his grandchildren Melissa Ferguson, Andrew Ferguson, and Sean Simpson (Sarah). The family would like to thank the Third Floor and Emergency Room staff of the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion shown to our father in his last days. A celebration of Peter’s life will take place in the Spring. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a favoured charity in his name. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.

and exotic cars, but there are a few cars that never made it to our showrooms and appear now only has special imports. 1972 Lancia Stratos HF – The Lancia Stratos HF is a monster of car. In the concept stages, the Stratos was an attempt by Bertone to get its foot in with Lancia, who had previously worked with Pinin Farina for design. The legend states that Bertone re-bodied a Lancia Fulvia and drove it to Lancia’s headquarters. Impressed with the Stratos prototype, Lancia agreed to collaborate with Bertone to create their next generation rally car. The Stratos was built around a Lancia chassis, with a Ferrari Dino engine positioned behind the seats. The rolling chassis was finished off with an aerodynamic body fitted by Bertone. The Lancia would go on to have a legendary career, winning the World Rally Championship from 1974-1976. 1973 Chevrolet Firenza Can Am – American automotive manufacturers have made a number of performance cars exclusively for Europe and Australia, but have you ever heard of an African performance car? Meet the Chevrolet Firenza Can Am, a Euro-
American mash-up that was never sold in either of those markets. Built to compete with Ford’s inferior Capri Perana, the Can Am began its existence in Britain as a Vauxhall Firenza frame, which was then shipped straight south to Port Elizabeth, where it was paired with a power train straight out of an American legend — the 1969 Camaro Z/28. With a lightweight body and nearly 300 horsepower, the smell of burning rubber was a no-cost option, and I’m sure there was plenty of that. The car was limited to a run of 100, which were built to satisfy homologation requirements for Argus Production Car series, 30 of which are still known to exist. 1969 Ford Escort RS1600 – While the latter part of the 1960s might have been the middle of the Mustang’s heyday, Ford was busy building fast cars all around the world. One of those cars was Ford’s venerable Escort, which was one of the top selling cars in Europe at the time. Of course, Ford engineers weren’t satisfied with a compact coupe with 1.3-litre engine, so they contacted the blokes over at Cosworth and developed the Escort RS1600. While the Cosworth engine
1969 Nissan Skyline Sedan GT-R may have put out only 113 horsepower, the tiny Escort was barely tipping the scales at 1,800 pounds, making the RS1600 one of the coolest cars cruising the UK at the time. 1969 Nissan Skyline GT-R – The Nissan Skyline GT-R is arguably the most iconic sports car to ever come from the islands of Japan. While the GT-R is most commonly idolized in its mid-’90s guise from the Fast & Furious franchise, our pick is the original — the 1969 Skyline GT-R. Introduced at the 1969 Tokyo Auto Show, the GT-R was a Nissan Skyline sedan that was stripped out and given the special treatment by the boys

in the Nissan Skunks Works team. The heart of the GT-R is a Nissan racing V-6 engine putting out 160 horsepower, allowing the GT-R to outrun its European rivals. Other cool upgrades included wide wheel arches, rally wheels, front and rear spoilers, and of course, the now-iconic GT-R badges. 1986 Porsche 959 – The Porsche 959 is a perfect example of what happens when some German mad scientists in Porsche decide that the 911 Turbo isn’t just quite enough. Built to be the ultimate Group B rally car, Porsche decided to slap an all-wheel drive system and a twin-turbo 2.8-liter boxer engine in a highly modified 911. In order to fulfill the FIA’s
homologation rule, Porsche built 337 examples for consumption by the public. Of course, the EPA and Porsche weren’t quite on the same page, and the 959 was never legally sold in the U.S. However, several example of the 959 have made their ways to our shores, most notably the “Gates 959,” which was stored by U.S. Customs for 13 years and was key in the passing of the “Show and Display” law.
