Fraser Health has closed an acupuncture clinic in Abbotsford, saying it does not meet “infection prevention and control standards” and poses a health hazard to clients. An advisory from the health agency is recommending that clients who received acupuncture services at the Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Centre, located at #11 - 2168 McCallum Rd., be tested for HIV and Hepatitis B and C. The centre is owned and operated by Duan (Deborah) Hu. A handwritten note on the door of the clinic on Thursday morning states, “The office is closed due to doctor’s family emergency … Dr. Hu will return ASAP.” Dr. Michelle Murti, Fraser Health’s medical health officer, said the agency was contacted with concerns about improper infection control measures at the site. She said environmental health officers immediately investigated the clinic. Continued on A4
