natural health
A global experiment has been underway for the last 30 years that has put cholesterol as villain number one in the war on heart disease. During this time we have been encouraged to eat less fat, take drugs that lower cholesterol and add more carbohydrate to our diet. The result: more people are obese, more people have diabetes and more people are dying from heart disease due to diabetes. In 2011 the American Heart Association predicted that over the next 20 years the prevalence of heart disease will increase dramatically becoming "a crisis of alarming proportion." If our global fat (and cholesterol) phobic experiment were working we would not be seeing this outcome and many researchers and physicians continue to say we are fighting the wrong enemy. There is mounting evidence that one of the primary underlying causes of heart disease is inflammation, not cholesterol. The more inflamed the body the more likely we are to produce damaged fats in our blood stream that in turn cut the lining of our blood vessels.
Just like we use a bandaid on a cut on the skin, the body uses cholesterol as a band-aid for the damaged blood vessel lining. This cholesterol bandaid forms plaque that over time will build up and reduce blood flow to the heart muscle and cause heart disease. Sure, cholesterol is involved in heart disease, this fact is clear. Cholesterol, however, is no more the cause of heart disease than a beeping fire alarm is the cause of a house fire. One of the main triggers of inflammation (and consequently heart disease) is related to how much carbohydrate, particularly refined sugars, we consume. When we eat sugar our body produces insulin to help the sugar get into the cell. A recent study looked at insulin in non-diabetics and found that the higher the level of insulin the higher the levels of CRP, fibrinogen and white blood cells (all markers of inflammation that increase the risk for heart disease). Over the next few articles I will discuss how you can reduce your levels of inflammation and your risk for heart disease.

Province helps with cleaner wood stoves The Province is providing $190,000 to communities throughout British Columbia to encourage residents to replace their old wood stoves with cleaner burning models. Together thirteen communities/regional districts are receiving funding from the Ministry of Environment through the Wood Stove Exchange Program. The goal is to have close to 630 stoves exchanged across the province this coming year. The 13 communities/
regional districts receiving grants for the 201415 wood exchange program are: * Cowichan Valley Regional District * Kootenay Boundary * Central Okanagan * Fraser Valley * Central Kootenay * Bella Coola Valley * Metro Vancouver * Prince George * Regional District of Nanaimo * Campbell River * Bulkley Valley * Alberni * Sunshine Coast
Since 2008, the B.C. government has partnered with the BC Lung Association to run the wood stove exchange program. The program provides a $250 rebate on the purchase of a new wood-burning, pellet or natural gas stove. To-date, the Province has put over $2.3 million towards the program, resulting in the purchase of over 6,000 cleaner burning models. There are approximately 70,000 older model wood stoves still in use throughout the province. Older higherpolluting wood stoves can affect the health of homeowners, neighbours and overall air shed health.

I’m missing! I was last seen Oct. 24 in the area of 4th St. N. & 21st Ave (near the Hospital). My family is really worried about me! I’m 3-4 years old, I’m a long haired calico with lots of white on me and very golden eyes. I’m very timid. Please help me get back to my family. They have a reward too.

Obituaries
Obituaries OBITUARY
Joseph Daignault December 16, 1946 - November 10, 2014 With heavy hearts and deepest sorrow, the family of Joseph Daignault announce his passing on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the EKRH in Cranbrook at the age of 67 years. Joe suffered a stroke in September 2005 which left him confined to a wheelchair because of complete left sided paralysis. Joe never lost hope to one day again, walk beside his wife, Doris of 40 plus years. Joe was born and raised and received his education in Creston, BC. In May, 1965, Joe began his many years of employment with Crestbrook Forest Industries. When Joe retired from CFI because of plant closure and medical issues, he was awarded and acknowledged with an award for 25 years of accident free employment service. Joe married his wife, Doris, in Creston in 1968 and moved to Cranbrook in September, 1997. They raised three children who have given them seven wonderful grandchildren. Joe was predeceased by his parents Henry and Valida Daignault; a sister, Irene Kirtzinger; three brothers, Edgar, Rene and Hubert Daignault. He is survived by his wife, Doris, two sons and a daughter: Shane and Julie Daignault (Joshua, Lindsay and Andrea), Bryan and Dana Daignault (Ashley and Courtney), Laurie and Darryl Powell (Tyler and Nicholas), all residing in Creston, BC. Joe became a resident of Joseph Creek Care Village in March 2007 and that soon became his home. Joe entered Joseph Creek a stranger and left an appreciated and wonderful friend to many residents along the way. We were truly blessed with the friendships and care of RCAs, LPNs and RNs throughout our years at Joseph Creek. We will miss them as much as we know they will miss Joe. He always had kind words, a story or joke to share and tell, and was truly connected with his extended family there. A graveside service for the family will take place in Creston, BC at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Friday, November 21, 2014. Memorial Services will be held in Cranbrook, BC at the Christ Church Anglican (46-13th Ave. S.) on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the Ballroom at the Heritage Inn In lieu of flowers anyone wishing to make donations on Joe's behalf may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation BC & Yukon or the Kids Help Phone.
