our First Nations men who attacked two others Wednesday night near the Cowichan River are sought by the Mounties. “RCMP are looking for the four men responsible for the beating of a 41-year-old Duncan man, and his friend on Sept. 3, at approximately 9 p.m.,” Friday’s email from North Cowichan/Duncan Cpl. Krista
Hobday says. “The man and a couple of his friends were gathered by the Cowichan River when they were approached by four First Nations men and two First Nations women. The injured folks say they were victims of an unprovoked attack when the four men began beating them. “The 41-year-old was bleeding and unconscious when the call to police was made by the pair’s female
friend,” Hobday says. Police and an ambulance headed to the scene where the wounded men were tended, and a search began. “A search, both on foot and in vehicles, of the surrounding area did not reveal any leads as to who may be responsible for this senseless attack,” she says. The two men were taken to hospital. “The 41-year-old is currently still
recovering in hospital, after receiving a good number of staples to his head. “His 55-year-old friend was released after suffering a minor concussion,” explains Hobday. “Their female friend did not receive any injuries.” “We received information from the victims that they were walking down the trail when they were attacked by the four men after greeting them,”
noted Sgt. Kurt Bosnell. “We hope all citizens of our community can feel safe when out and about, and situations like this are troubling,” added Hobday. RCMP are requesting information be reported to the North Cowichan/ Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). If you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
