WELCOME! Welcome to the Learning Centre in the Bradley Building. As the Manager of the Snow School, our Mtn Kids Centre and Alpine Rentals, I am dedicated to providing you with a great experience, whether it’s your first time in the sport or you’re a seasoned veteran! Our staff have the skills to provide you with the best skiing experience for any day on the mountain. From a great knowledgeable sales team, to rental skis and boards made for learning, and industry leading Snow School programs, our Learning Centre team will make your day on the mountain a memorable one. Learning to ski and snowboard can be challenging. Our first time programs are designed to be a fun and positive learning environment that will help allay any fears, intimidation or poor past experiences. From beginners to advanced, our drop-in group or private lessons are a great way to get you to feel more comfortable on your gear and continue growing your skill set. Our seasonal programs offer the opportunity for exceptional skill development and value, where students can enjoy 5 or 10 weeks with the same pro! These longer programs foster substantial progress, and participants meet others who love to ski and ride too... so much so that you may just find it tough to get your kids off the slopes at day’s end! My ski training includes earning a Level 4 Instructor Certification with the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) and Level 1 Snowboard with Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI). I work with the provincial board for the CSIA as well as with the Canada West Ski Areas Association. Locally I am a founding member of the United Riders of Cumberland and have worked with both Comox Valley Tourism and the Vancouver Island Mountain Sport Society, as well as special projects for the Economic Development Society. This program allows you to introduce your tot to the alpine environment, with a focus on the Mtn Kids area, the equipment and play time on snow. Senior instructors will provide youth with class management skills, review the beginner progression and develop skills that are needed to complete the Level 1 course. Students will receive a 30% discount off the introductory courses offered by the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance or the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors. Within our Nordic Area we have cross country skiing all starting from the beautiful Raven Lodge which includes 55 km (30 miles) of machine groomed cross-country trails. The trail network meanders and weaves through the resort and scenic parklands. In addition we have 22 kms (13.5 miles) of snowshoe trails. A typical day may include gliding on the winding tracks through the forest of Strathcona Provincial Park, lunch in our cafĂŠ, a sauna and then relaxing in front of the fireplace. If XC skiing is not your thing, you can make your way on the snow with a set of snowshoes from our rental shop, or we have guides that can take you out and show you the best way to get the most from your new found passion!

One of my main focuses is to ensure that we have the best tracks and groomed trails every day. The West Coast presents us with challenging snow which makes for difficult grooming. With the experience that I have dealing with our type of snow, I was honoured to be selected as one of the grooming staff for the 2010 Vancouver/ Whistler Paralympic Games. I volunteer with the Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue team and have trained as a Search Manager, Ropes Team Leader, Swiftwater Rescue Technician and have been a part of over 70 searches.

CLASSIC SKIING This introduction to Classic Skiing covers how to get up, move on the flats, snowplow to control speed down a small hill and herringbone to get up a small hill. At the end of this lesson you will be able to get around on classic skis on a Green trail.

DISCOVER SNOWSHOE The guide will lead you around the Old Cabin Trail, talk about the trail system, hazards, where to snowshoe and give some techniques for traveling in fresh snow.

GUIDED SNOWSHOE HIKES

Snowshoe hikes are 4 hours in length and route based on weather and group ability.

Designed for a longer day, hikes head further past the marked trails than the other programs. The group will travel to one of the lakes in Strathcona Provincial Park, where they can enjoy a delicious lunch before heading back to Raven Lodge in the afternoon. *Package price includes trail pass, lesson, rental and lunch. XMAS CLASSIC CAMP December 29-31, 2014 $73 12pm-1:30pm 13+ YRS This 3-day 1.5 hour camp designed to improve your classic skiing techniques, may be combined with the Xmas Skate Camp to give you a full day program, making you a well rounded skier, for any conditions.

XMAS KIDS CAMP December 29-31, 2014 $140* 10am-3pm 6-12 YRS This 3-day, 5 hours per day program focuses on fun and being outdoors. An instructor will take kids skiing in the morning and work on classic techniques, followed by a healthy lunch and snowshoeing through the forest in the afternoon. *Package price includes trail pass, lesson, rental and lunch each day.

Rent your skis online to save! Full day rental is 9am-4pm. Night rentals are available Fridays, Saturdays and Christmas Holidays 3pm-8pm.
