34-year-old seriously injured in collision

Woman loses legs after being struck at bus stop by Kevin Diakiw A WOMEN LOST both her legs when she was hit by a truck while she was waiting for a bus in the Guildford area of Surrey. Just before 8 a.m. Monday (June 30), a GMC van was traveling southbound on 148 Street when it was hit by a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was heading westbound on 88 Avenue. Police said witnesses at the scene said the truck ran a red light before it hit the van. The collision sent the truck into a bench where two women were waiting for a bus. The impact severed both legs of a 34-year-old woman sitting at the bus stop, while a 22-year-old woman who was only a couple of feet away sustained minor injuries. Good Samaritans who stopped to help the woman likely helped her survive, police said. As of Wednesday, the woman remained in critical condition. Both drivers involved remained at the accident scene. Charges are expected against the driver of the truck, police said. Because of the complexity of traffic investigations, it will likely take more than a year for the case to go to court, if charges are approved. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Haevischer and Matthew Johnston are guilty of killing six people in a Surrey apartment tower, the Crown stated during the first day of closing submissions at the Surrey Six trial on Wednesday. Lawyer Mark Levitz, speaking in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver, said Haevischer and Johnston are guilty of conspiracy to kill

rival drug leader Corey Lal and of the first-degree murder of Lal and five others on Oct. 19, 2007. Among the victims were fireplace repairman Ed Schellenberg, 55, of Abbotsford and Surrey’s Christopher Mohan, 22, who lived across the hall from suite 1505 – the scene of the mass killing in the Balmoral Tower in Surrey.
