Residents to receive important mail

Representatives of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD), including Area E Bonaparte Plateau Director Sally Watson, met with about two dozen 70 Mile House residents on June 16 to discuss annual funding for the 70 Mile House Volunteer Fire Department (70MHVFD). The fire department executive has asked the TNRD to consider the adoption of a proposed financial contribution to the 70 Mile House Fire Protection Service If approved, the 139 property owners with-

in the service area will provide annual tax funding – to a maximum of $15,000 – as a contribution to the cost of providing fire protection service in 70 Mile House. The funding will be used by the 70 Mile House Firefighters Association (70MHFA) for annual operating and equipment costs. Noting the TNRD will soon be sending out petitions to all residents within eight kilometres (fire protection area) of the fire hall, Gail Moseley, 70MHFA secretary treasurer, asks residents to watch for the petition to arrive

in the mail. “Please look at [the petition] very carefully. We hope you will respond by returning it to the TNRD before the July 14 deadline.” A phone number will be included in the petition explaining how to contact Doug Rae at the TNRD to find out exactly how it would affect property owners’ specific situations, she adds. The 70MFA wants to receive stable funding through the TNRD tax base, she explains. Continued on 11
