Team Prizes Awarded Slo-pitch Finals (2:30) DJ music

With the 1983 ball season well underway with 8 teams, it was recognized that there were few mixed tournaments to participate in. Every weekend men’s and women’s tourneys were held but there were none for recreational mixed teams. It was at this time, the idea to host a mixed tournament was arrived upon and with the emphasis on FUN, a total of 20 teams participated. Discussion arose about having a fun, recreational mixed tournament as an annual event Hundreds of ideas were tossed around. While talking to many teams that participated in the previous tourneys, they all said they had a “lot of fun”, it was “fantastic” and thus FUNTASTIC was born. The leader of FUNTASTIC, John Topping started working immediately on the first annual FUNTASTIC Mixed Slowpitch tournament to be held in 1985. With Invitations sent out to parks and recreation departments throughout BC, plans for a dance, pitching contest, home run contest and a beer garden were made. Four ball teams agreed to co-host the 1985 event. Lavington, and Coldstream, 55 teams kicked off FUNTASTIC 1985. The dance was sold out, thousands of dollars in prizes and trophies were given away. The biggest ball tournament in Vernon was over with every team winning something. It truly was a FUNTASTIC event. With teams getting lost, and volunteers having trouble being spread all over town, serious thought went into reshaping FUNTASTIC. After many months of negotiations with city hall, the provincial and federal governments, an agreement with the Department of National Defense was reached. DND ball fields 1 through 5 plus an additional 3 new fields and a beer garden area would be made available to FUNTASTIC on July 4, 5, and 6, 1986. Grahame Park and Kin Race Track were also booked. The organizing teams who had successfully worked together to co-host a successful softball tournament were feeling the effects of the incredible work load. New faces, not necessarily ball players, business men and women and new individuals came together to form the VERNON AND DISTRICT FUNTASTIC SPORTS SOCIETY; a registered non profit organization. With new ideas from the board, they pushed forward with the construction of a children’s playground at Grahame Park, and a cash donation to the Vernon Special Olympics were agreed to. The DND Army Cadet fund and Vernon Sports Hall of Fame would also receive donations from FUNTASTIC. That year, the committee applied to copy right the name FUNTASTIC.

From the “big hair” days of the late ‘80’s to today’s country and rock, The Young’uns have been honing their style and entertaining fans for 25 years. 16th Annual Enderby Tournament

HERO'S

Funtastic Enderby has been a major contributor to the recreation amenities and services that we as a community have come to enjoy, since 1998, the first year the ball tournament was held in Enderby. Some of the projects that Enderby Funtastic has taken part in over the years include: • a children’s play area at riverside ball park • fencing and netting of diamond 1 • refurbishing of backstops • the rebuilding of diamond 4 • a major contributor to the Enderby area F parks plan • the purchase of a rotovater/aerator for the grounds crew to use on the ball diamond infield maintenance • continued support for many local teams who participate in championship playoffs in out of the area locations These are just a few of the projects that Enderby Funtastic has participated over the years. The directors of Enderby Funtastic want to firstly recognize the Enderby Lions Club for faithfully supporting us for 15 years. It was through their participation in Funtastic that they were inspired to build some kind of a facility with a roof, for functions such as this. Thus the Gazebo which was built in 2003, a great asset to the community which is used by many for various functions. THANK YOU ENDERBY LIONS CLUB. We also would like to thank the many local businesses and citizens for their continued support of our July long weekend event. Most of all a big thank you to the many teams who have participated over the years, some since the very beginning.

SUNDAYnight BANDS Trooper

Canada’s songwriting legacy. “We’re Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)”, “Raise a Little Hell”, “The Boys in the Bright White Sportscar”, “Two For the Show”, “Pretty Lady” “Good Ol’ General Hand Grenade”, “Round, Round We Go”, “Santa Maria”, “Janine” - just a few of the Trooper hits that, according to writer Ryan Sparks, “have woven their way into the fabric of this country like no other bands have been able to do. Tune into any radio station from Vancouver to St John’s and you’re bound to encounter one of their dozen hit radio anthems that are still featured in heavy rotation to this day.” Dan Brisbois of canadianbands.com writes, “They’ve won practically every Canadian music award possible and they’ve been dubbed ‘Canada’s Greatest Party Band’ ... and rightfully so.” Bob Mersereau, author of The Top 100 Canadian Albums wrote, “Trooper’s Hot Shots has been one of the biggest-selling albums in Canadian music history. It has gone six times platinum, and sells consistently, as do tickets to Trooper gigs. Trooper has become a Canadian legend, they continue to perform their huge collection of hits with the vitality and sense of humor that has served them well on their steady march through the hills and valleys of Canadian Rock and Roll.

THE Goods

“The Chevelles” live rock n’ roll performances have been entertaining cities and communities across Canada for well over 12 years. This completely live entertaining four piece band was strategically created by drummer T.T. Chevelle. His intention was to bring back the Explosive Dynamic Power and Excitement of the Live Music Club Scenes that Dominated the 60’s,70’s and 1980’s. ”The Chevelles” enjoy bringing back the excitement of electric guitar driven music to every stage they play on show after show. With a MONSTEROUS SONGLIST, “The Chevelles” put forth the best show possible night after night after night. If you haven’t seen this ” Inspiring Rock „n’ Roll Party Tribute “, please take the chance, and have fun like everyone else !!

It goes like this: millions of records, a couple dozen hits, a Juno Award (Canada’s Grammy) for Band of the Year and ongoing sold-out shows across Canada. Universal Music acknowledges them as “one of Canada’s top five selling bands of all time” and the Vancouver Sun has called them “Canadian rock heroes of the first order ... the best performing band in Canada”. In 2009, Peter Assaff of The Northern Light hailed Trooper’s Ra McGuire and Brian Smith as “the Canadian version of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards” and Joel Rubinoff of The Record wrote, “ ... this frolicking, rollicking showcase for McGuire’s soaring pop melodies and whimsical wordplay is arguably one of the biggest Canadian bands of all time.” Then, as now, what makes Trooper what they are is great performances and great pop songwriting. Trooper’s ten studio albums have earned multiple gold and platinum awards and their 6 X Platinum greatest hits, Hot Shots, continues to be one of Universal Music Canada’s best selling catalog CDs and one of the country’s most enduring party soundtracks. In celebration of the band’s 35th anniversary, a totally updated and re-mastered collection - “Hits From 10 Albums” - was released, featuring songs spanning the entirety of their recording career. John Kereiff, writing in Gonzo Magazine, dubbed the collection “THE summer album of 2010.” In 2012 Trooper songwriters Ra McGuire and Brian Smith were awarded SOCAN’s prestigious ‘National Achievement Award’ to acknowledge their significant and lasting contribution to
