DONALDA & DISTRICT MUSEUM The Donalda & District Museum is a must-see! Situated in the heart of the historic Village of Donalda, northeast of Red Deer and northeast of Stettler, the museum houses 1,000 oil burning lamps dating from 1600 to 1960, the Whitford collection of Metis artifacts, and over 4,000 pioneer artifacts depicting the history of Donalda.

Incorporated in 1912, Donalda was a central place in the rich farming area, serving homesteaders who came to the village for supplies and brought their produce, including milk and eggs to town to the Donalda Co-operative Creamery from 1924. Banking took place at the Imperial Bank of Canada (originally the Bank of Montreal from 1928 to 1932) and passengers and goods embarked and disembarked from the Canadian Northern Railway station (brought from Saskatchewan to replace the original Canadian Northern Station which was torn down). These heritage buildings contribute to the history and character of Donalda.

NORWEGIAN LAFT HUS Located in downtown Red Deer, the Norwegian Laft Hus is a tourist attraction, museum, and cultural centre. It is a non-profit, all volunteer-run organization open to the public year round on Wednesdays from 9:00 to 3:00. It has a growing collection of antiques and replicas of items used by Norwegian immigrants. Courses are offered in Norwegian arts, crafts and cooking. A small “Butikk” sells Norwegian crafts, books, gift items, and cooking equipment. Summer hours are 10-4 Tues –Sat, 12-4 Sunday, and closed Mondays.

Rocky Mountain House is truly “Where Adventure Begins” and will be a busy place this summer with all the events that are planned to go along with the terrific camping and outdoor activities. Being only a short 45 minute drive west of Red Deer it is a great area to enjoy a daytrip or an extended holiday. In June the Annual Pro Rodeo takes place with their exciting parade on June 7th. Starting on June 26th Marketplace on Main will take place every Thursday night until August 28th with live entertainment and vendors. This leads into the Canada Day with all the activities taking place at the National Historic Site with all day fun including bands, a children’s entertainer and other activities for the whole family. The Rocky Pow Wow will take place on July 11-13 with competitors from all over converging onto the National Historic Site. Then on August 13-17, the World Pro Chuck wagons come to Town for a great week of racing. The summer ends with the annual Lion’s Demolition Derby on August 24th.
