Volunteers ready for RBC action ers for 10 years, and he will be helping out with Vipers’ team services; making sure they have food and Gatorade before games. “I like meeting all the great people that help out; it is really rewarding,” said Deboice. This is the first time Bill Munroe has volunteered with the team. Munroe is an usher and will help people find where they need to go. “It’s going to be great. I’ll be helping people out as I get to watch the Vipers win the RBC Cup,” said Munroe. After years of planning, Lane and Klepp’s job is getting close to the finish line. “It’s going to be nice to sit back and oversee everything and watch some fantastic hockey,” said Lane. The first game is 2 p.m. Saturday at Kal Tire Place between the Dauphin Kings and the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots. The hometown Vipers take to the ice against the Carleton Place Canadians at 7 p.m. Saturday. See A20 for more on the RBC Cup

t was 36 months ago that Vernon was awarded the task of preparing for the 2014 RBC Cup. And finally, the community is just mere hours away from seeing the puck drop on the Royal Bank Cup Canadian Junior A hockey championship tournament at Kal Tire Place. Event manager Don Klepp and tourney chairman Mike Lane hosted a volunteer rally at Kal Tire Place Saturday for everyone helping out at the RBC Cup. “It is really great to see this all come together,” said Klepp. “We’ve got 217 volunteers here, today is about getting them acquainted, giving them their accreditation and going over final expectations.” The volunteers are divided into 29 committees, dealing with everything from visitor services and traffic control to seating ushers. “I am most excited for opening night, getting people into the building and kicking this tournament off,” said Lane.
