Accident takes child’s life Five-year-old passes away in hospital after being struck by car Vikki HOPES Abbotsford News
The five-year-old girl who was struck by a car on Tuesday night in Abbotsford has died of her injuries. Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald confirmed that the child passed away in hospital late Wednesday afternoon. “The Abbotsford Police Department extends condolences to the family and friends of this young girl. We encourage continued support
for all those involved,” he said. Dave Stephen, communications manager with the Abbotsford school district, confirmed that the girl, whose name has not been released, was a kindergarten student at Harry Sayers elementary. “Our district response team is at the school today to support the administrators, help in talking to students in the young victim’s class, and support teachers and staff as needed,” Stephen said on Thursday morning. The collision took place in a laneway north
of the 31500 block of Blueridge Drive just before 6 p.m. The child apparently ran out of a gate into an alley and was struck by a westbound Toyota Corolla. Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the 42-year-old female driver and her passenger remained on the scene. Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service and BC Ambulance personnel provided medical treatment for the girl, and an air ambulance was called to the scene to transport her to hospital.
