The First Nation says the April decision by the B.C. Supreme Court does not respect their sacred relationship with Qat’muk SALLY MACDONALD Townsman Staff
The Ktunaxa Nation has launched a legal appeal against a B.C. Supreme Court ruling about the proposed Jumbo Glacier Resort. The First Nation announced on Monday, May 5, that it has filed papers with the B.C. Court of Appeal. The decision comes after the Ktunaxa argued in a judicial review that Jumbo Glacier Resort violates its charter rights to religious freedom by desecrating land that is sacred to them, which the Ktunaxa know as Qat’muk. See KTUNAXA, page 5
Venue changed The venue for the Celebration of Life for Jenna Homeniuk, who passed away from leukemia last week at age 16, has been changed from the Civic Centre to JODI L’HEUREUX PHOTO McKim Theatre. The time remains 1 p.m. SHEEP ON THE RUN. Cowpokes large and small had a great time at the annual Dynamiters Bull-A-Rama at the Civic Centre last Saturday and those attending are asked to wear night. It was a jam-packed day as Kimberley went western for First Saturday. See more from the Bull-A-Rama, page 9, and First Saturday, teal or mint green in Jenna’s honour.
