Fun run a real Splash Morning Star Staff

Some colour is being added to the lives of some special children. The inaugural Splash of Colour Family Fun Run in Kelowna and Vernon Saturday attracted about 1,100 people and raised $95,000 to send kids with disabilities to Easter Seals Camp Winfield this summer. “It was great to see so many smiling colourful faces and costumes at our inaugural events in both cities,” said Stephen Miller, Easter Seals president. “Like many not-for-profits, stretching every dollar as far as possible has become a way of life, and without the funds raised through events like Splash of Colour, we would not be able to continue to operate our three specialized camps and our Easter Seals House in Vancouver.” Of the $95,000, $43,000 was raised in Vernon while the remainder came from the Kelowna event. “These totals include the generous contributions from presenting sponsor Century 21 of $20,500 in Kelowna and $20,602 in Vernon,” said Miller. Camp Winfield has been the charity of choice for Century 21 for many years. “It has been heartwarming to listen to the experiences of kids and their families and to see the tremendous support from the community of Vernon with this Splash of Colour Run,” said Kim Heizmann, Century 21 managing broker. “We had more than 400 participants which is fabulous.” Prize category winners in Vernon were: Most funds raised by a team: M&M; most funds raised by an individual: Kerri Murphy; first home: Liam McGrath; most outrageous costume by a team: Team Teag; most outrageous costume by an individual: Peter Ortman; most creative team name: Vicious and Delicious and most colourful individual: Sadie Quinton.
