for the

Kettle

F

or over 20 years, the Kettle River, the Okanagan region’s only true fly-fishing trout stream, has been suffering fish kills. A deadly combination of low flows and high temperatures have made the rainbow trout in the river susceptible while illegal harvesting of the largest of the rainbows continues to threaten the prized sport fish. Now, after years of study to pin-point the problem, fisheries biologists and conservation groups can see the light at the end of the tunnel. There are proposed regulation changes coming that could try to stop the fish kills. Reporter Kevin Parnell tells the story of the Kettle, a Kelowna man’s efforts to save it and the fisheries biologist behind the proposed changes. See story on page A3 GRAPHIC: KIANA HANER-WILK
