Kootenay adventurer, stonemason passes away SUBMIT TED
East Kootenay residents are going to miss one of the region’s most colourful personalities and renowned adventurers, who passed away recently. Uli Korb climbed his final mountain on the evening of April 4, 2014 at the FW Green Home in Cranbrook. It was an ambitious assault that began about two years
prior with a spot on his lung. In spite of that, some of his friends remember a pleasant climb-outing with him up Mause Creek Ridge to Tanglefoot in 2012, and also skiing cross -country loops with him in 2013 near his home in Wycliffe, with the idyllic view west of the airport.

Deb Kopak, a resident of Caldwell Road, is pictured by her property just outside Cranbrook, which is rapidly getting inundated by the rising waters of Elizabeth Lake. In recent days Kopak has had to evacuate her horses and move vehicles off of the backyard property as quickly as possible before they are trapped. The households along Caldwell Road say they have never seen the water rising so high and so quickly. See more, Page 5.

Kyrie said the experience was something to remember. “It was amazing,” she said. “I got to meet a lot of really nice and cool people.” She said it was so much more than she even imagined it would be. The girls were given lessons in everything from interview skills to how to properly walk for the pageant. “It gave me a huge ex-

perience, because now for nationals there are talent scouts and people who discover people there,” she said. “Canada’s modelling agencies are there.” She said at the B.C. pageant there were some things to get used to. “We walked around in heels for 12 hours a day, and were taught how to dance in them,” she said. “It was painful.”
