The 20th annual Cattle Baron’s Ball hosted by the Boundary C 4-H Club packed the Rock Creek Fairgrounds Pavilion last Saturday night. Funds raised will help the 4-H members to participate in the Rock Creek and provincial winter fairs this fall. But 2014 is the 100th anniversary of 4-H in B.C. and there are plans afoot to celebrate the centenary. 4-H is more than just the fall fair, though. For example the Boundary District 4-H Rally Day is held each May. This year, to help celebrate 100 years of 4-H in the province, Rally Day will be a two-day affair and invitation cards for a social, dinner and dance on May 3 were given out throughout the evening to supporters and 4-H alumni (former members, leaders or parents). The Cattle Baron’s Ball featured a dinner and dance (Sonny Boys provided live music) with many donated items offered at both a silent auction and a live auction. It is clear that the community supports the work done by 4-H. Over $13,200 was raised in the live auction alone. Kevin Rothwell, General Manager for 4-H BC, conducted the auction for the second year in a row. Up for sale were several items donated by local citizens and businesses. Local artists donated numerous pieces for the auctions. John Lindquist once again went above and beyond, • See CATTLE BARON’S BALL page 9

Lions host free Easter dinner For the eighth year the Kettle River Lions Club is offering their free Easter dinner—a delicious meal each year featuring turkey, ham and all the trimmings. This year’s event happens on Easter Saturday, April 19 at 5 p.m. at the Rock Creek fairgrounds pavilion. Children are welcome. While the dinner is free of charge, it is expected that those who can afford it make a donation. Those who are for some reason not able to pay for it—it’s ok, that is what the dinner is all about. “This is our eighth Easter dinner and the
