The City of Kimberley’s water supply system consists of eight concrete storage reservoirs, three chlorinating plants, over 100 kilometres of water main pipe, three pump stations and a concrete dam with 275 million-litre reservoir. The dam was built in the early 1990s and at the time was one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the city, and to date has never been inspected to assure that it is structurally sound. It is a requirement by the Ministry of Environment that all municipal dams undergo a dam Safety Review every five years.
