In each case officers noted signs of alcohol consumption and made a breath demand. The driver’s supplied breath samples that registered a “Fail” on the Roadside Screening Device. The

drivers were served an Immediate Roadside Prohibition which prohibits them from driving for 90 days; the vehicles were impounded for 30 days. In one case the driver was suspended from driving due to an impaired driving conviction in 2009. He will attend court in May to deal with that charge.

RDEK adopts financial plan Submitted

The Regional District of East Kootenay has adopted its Financial Plan for the years 2014 - 2018. The 2014 budget is $24.5 million, which represents an overall decrease of $218,000 from last year. This includes a number of items that are specific to certain service areas. When those items are set aside, the 2014 operating budget for services shared by most municipalities and electoral areas in the region, represents a 0.9% increase from 2013. “The Board and staff have worked diligently to maintain service levels and keep increases to a minimum. I am pleased with the budget we’ve adopted,” says RDEK Vice Chair Wendy Booth. It is important to understand that there is a difference between the numbers in the budget and the effect those numbers will have on individual tax rates.

“

The Board and staff have worked diligently to maintain service levels and keep increases to a minimum,”

Wendy Booth, RDEK Vice Chair

Residents of the RDEK will be affected differently, depending on the municipality or electoral area in which they live. On average, rural residential properties in the RDEK will see approximately a 0.3% overall increase in their tax levy. “Unlike a municipality that has one boundary and one set of taxpayers, different areas of the RDEK require different services and these are paid for only by the taxpayers of each specific service area,” explains Booth. “In addition, even though there may be increases in the requisition amount, new development in parts of the region will offset some of that impact on

RDEK taxpayers.” Tax calculations are expected to be complete by early-April when 2014 revised assessed values are available. Highlights in the 2014 budget include household hazardous waste round ups, contribution to a reserve fund for waste diversion initiatives, Edgewater water upgrade, Spur Valley water upgrade, and repayment of a significant portion of the borrowing for the new Fernie transfer station. The 5-Year Plan for 2014-2018 was formally adopted by the RDEK Board at its March Board meeting on Friday.

The tax man cometh soon Submitted

The last day to file your taxes isn’t until April 30, but many people are thinking about hiring a tax professional now. However, Better Business Bureau warns that consumers can run into serious problems if they don’t do their research to find a reputable tax preparer. “Most tax professionals are qualified, reliable and honest,” says BBB President and CEO Danielle Primrose, “But it is well worth the time to look for a qualified, dependable and trustworthy service to avoid problems during and after consumers hand over their documents.” Your BBB has some tips for selecting a reputable tax preparer and avoiding those who may be problematic: Check on qualifications. Ask about their training, experience and knowledge of current tax law, and whether they are members of a professional organization with continuing education requirements and a code of ethics. Learn about their service terms in advance. Find out whether they guarantee the accuracy of their work and amend the return if there’s a mistake. And find out if they can be reached year round-if there is a mistake or are required to undergo an audit, you want to make sure you can reach them after the tax season is complete. Ask for references. Get referrals from satisfied clients. Check with BBB. Visit www.bbb.org/ mbc/ to determine if the tax preparer has a reputation for reliability and trustworthiness.

Request a quote. Ask for an estimate of the preparation fee before authorizing the work. BBB advises consumers to steer clear of tax preparers who sound too good to be true. Beware if they: • Boast they can obtain larger refunds than their competitors. • Pressure you to sign up for immediate payment of your refund. This involves a loan that typically carriers a high interest rate. • Base their fee on a percentage of the refund amount, rather than the complexity of the tax return, or • Don’t ask to review your records and receipts, or discuss whether you qualify for expenses and deductions. Once your income tax return is prepared, make certain the preparer has signed it and get a copy and payment receipt for your records. Also review the return before signing it and ask for clarification of any entry you don’t understand. Be on the watch for tax-related scams Each year new scams surface online, promising tax refunds and other incentives to get you to part with your

personal information. Be on the watch for the following scams: • Phishing Scams. Never open or download attachments included with messages claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency. Typically, these messages advise the recipient that they have qualified for a tax refund and need to click on a link to enter their information. The link takes the person to a bogus website and requires the visitor to enter personal identification. CRA will not contact you via email. • Identity Theft. If you’re doing your taxes on your own online, don’t use a public wireless connection. Even using the latest wireless security encryption standards such as WPA2 can be risky, so use a wired connection when dealing with sensitive financial and personal information. • Malware. Refrain from opening any unsolicited tax-related email message, as some messages can exploit weaknesses in your browser and initiate a drive-by download of spyware or malware without your knowledge.

Damon Colgan, the Executive Director of the Cranbrook Archives has several great ideas of taking this wonderful rail museum and adding the Cranbrook history to it. Recently, Damon with the great help of volunteer archivist, David Humphreys, spent time talking about the hours of work done and yet to be done on archiving all of Cranbrook’s newspapers from as far back as 1897. It was quite evident to the CFUW Cranbrook Club members that the archive department needed much investment of proper lighting, ventilation, temperature/humidity controls and the like. In that preserving our past is necessary as an educational tool for our future generations, the club made a donation to the museum’s archive budget. Pictured here is Damon Colgan accepting a $50 donation from Cathryn Henley, CFUW Cranbrook Club President. Correction: In a recent article submitted by the CFUW about previous Cranbrook Woman of the Year recipients it stated that Flo Reid was deceased. Ms. Reid is still very much alive.

A new season kicks off for the Bull River Shooters

(Kootenay East) Province of British Columbia

3 Facts you need to Know About... Changes to the Park Act

1. Government is amending the Park Act to allow a variety of uses, if the minister issues a park use permit. This will include film-making, compatible outdoor recreation, tourism and limited essential industrial uses. 2. Included is the authority to investigate the land base to assess whether to grant a permit for a transmission line, pipeline or other similar industrial purpose. Issuing permits for investigation will ensure that government has the information needed to make informed decisions regarding the effects of the proposal on the park’s natural or recreational values. 3. Permits will only be considered after a thorough review of protected area values, including the review of management plans and the completion of impact assessments and conservation risk assessments. Proponents must make every effort to minimize intrusive research in protected areas.

noted. Anyone can participate in a club match, even non-members (we expect you’ll likely want to join because you will have had so much fun and will realize what a great group we are!) We do ask that participants arrive by 9 a.m. to register which allows us to organize the match and gives everyone a chance to warm-up and check settings on scopes. Starting promptly at 10 a.m. allows the day to progress in a timely fashion. We shoot a match in the morning and again in the afternoon, with most shooters competing in 2 classes of guns (so 2 matches in the am and 2 in the pm). Lunch is usually available for a few dollars. Match fees are $10 per gun for the whole day. If you’re new to silhouette and feel nervous about trying it, then our Intro Shoot April 6 is perfect for you. Members will be on hand to coach and even let you try some of our rifles. The event will start at 10:00am. We are very proud of our growing contingent of junior shooters and many of our members relish in the opportunity to mentor a new shooter (young or old!) Don’t be shy. Another important date to mark on the calendar is Sunday May 4. That is the day of our annual range clean-up. Members gather for a work bee as we paint and mow and repair and

dig and rake…! This has become a memorable day as we have a lot of fun making our range look great. Work starts at 9 a.m. Membership fees for the BRSA are $90 for the year (April 1 ~ March 31). Additional dependant family members may join for $15 each, which covers insurance costs. In addition to insurance (which includes liability protection for members if ever involved in a shooting accident) and ongoing club expenses, dues cover your participation in 4 club matches, scheduled throughout the season. Juniors compete for free. Membership for those 65 years and up is $35 but does not include any match fees. Memberships can be purchased from Rob McKeeman at 250-4262794. Memberships can also be purchased at any club match. A wealth of information about Metallic Silhouette shooting can be found on the Internet. For information about the BRSA please contact Rob as noted above. New members are always welcome! We look forward to seeing you at the range.

KAT competes in all corners of the province Submitted Kimberley Alpine Team athletes hit all corners of the province last week. Nancy Greene Racers travelled to Kicking Horse Resort in Golden, U14 racers participated in BC Winter Games at Hemlock Valley and U16 athletes skied at Purden, near Prince George for their provincials. Golden Twelve ski racers from Kimberley Alpine Team participated at the Kicking Horse Nancy Greene Invitational Race. Ski Clubs from Kimberley, Lake Louise, Revelstoke, Fernie and Golden attended the race. The race consisted of a Giant Slalom course and in spite of the very strong competition, the Kimberley racers held Kimberley’s name up high by performing very well at the race. Results: Hailey Pasula 1st place – girls age 4 Alek Damnjanovic 3rd place – boys age 6 Katarina Damnjanovic 1st place – girls age 7 Brayden Pasula 2 n d place – boys age 7 Brendan du Preez 5th place – boys age 8 Jorja Look 5th place – girls age 8 Avery Blair 1st place – girls age 9 Trent Walkley 6th place – boys age 9 Charlize du Preez 1st place – girls age 10 Georgia Polomski 2nd place – girls age 10 Taya Woods 3rd place – girls age 10 Brendon Hoechsmann 2nd place – boys age 10 Hemlock Valley Three U14 Kimberley Alpine Team members travelled to Hemlock Valley Resort to compete in the alpine ski events for the BC Winter Games on Feb 21st to 23rd. Emma Damm placed 16th in the slalom and giant slalom and 11th in the skier cross. Jamie Casselman and Ethan Blair competed in the U14 slalom, however mother nature and a broken chair lift interfered and the boys did not get to race their giant slalom and skier cross race. As disappointing as it was for the boys, they still had a fun experience flying to Mission with their

Kootenay zone team and spending a weekend with ski racers from across the province. These U14 athletes look forward to BC provincials which will be held in Sun Peaks in mid March. 1. The plants that keep on giving. Easy-care and dependable, perennials are the foundation for many gardens. Unlike annuals, which must be replanted every season, perennials are softstemmed, woody or even evergreen plants that re-grow from the same root system each season. 2. Plan first, plant later! Perennials offer an enormous variety of textures, colours, shapes and sizes. Most perennials will live for many seasons and some, such as peonies, can last for decades, so doing some planning and garden design before you plant can help you get the look you want. Your plan should also take into consideration the plants’ preference for sun or shade. No worries if it doesn’t turn out the way you want or you want to change things around after a while most perennials can easily be moved. 3. Give them time and a bit of TLC. Do not expect your perennial plants to reach their full flowering potential the year they are planted. It will usually take the plant a season to become well established. Routine feeding and watering will help meet the plants’ nutritional needs through their growing season and get them rooted and stable. 4. Colour flash! One of the easiest perennials to grow is astilbe. They can light up the shade with long-blooming, plume-like flowers that are perched above airy foliage on tall stems. New this year is ‘Color Flash’ with narrow plumes in light pink and ever-changing foliage. Throughout the season the leaves will turn from green to burgundy and purple, then finally they will shine in gold, orange and russet tones. 5. Pillow talk in the garden. Foliage is also the main attraction with actaea, also referred to as bugbane. The new variety ‘Black Negligee’ sports lacy, purple-black leaves that are offset by up to two foot tall flower stems, clustered with purple-tinted, white blossoms. The flowers give off an exotic scent that is wildly attractive to bees and butterflies. 6. Birds and bees. The common name of monarda, ‘bee balm’, indicates that this is another perennial that will be helpful in attracting winged creatures to your garden. While monarda has been dazzling gardeners with flowers in shades or red, pink and purple in the past, this season we will see the addition of ‘Snow White’. The brilliant white, highly fragrant flowers are sure to “pop” in any flowerbed. 7. First Lady of your yard. Veronica is a perennial that gets your attention with long spikes of small petals shooting up from their leafy nest. ‘First Lady’ is a new compact variety with a very uniform growth habit. The medium size clumps produce pure-white flowers all summer long. 8. A piece of the French Province. Lavender is a plant that evokes images of long summers, red wine, creamy cheese and ‘joie de vivre’ in Southern France. If you want to take a piece of that and create your own oasis, go right ahead with lavendula ‘Phenomenal’. This new variety has a consistent growth with a uniform, mounding habit. It is very hardy and you should experience less winter damage than with other varieties. 9. Burst of sunshine. If you are looking for a cheerful perennial that will keep the sunshine in your yard all summer, the helenium is a good choice and this season you will see a new, compact variety in greenhouses. ‘Short and Sassy’ is just that with bright, orange and gold flowers clustered around a coffee-brown cone. 10. Perennial allrounder. If there is one flower that will do it all, it’s the dianthus. Perfect for anything from containers to flowerbeds, borders, slopes and as a ground cover, this plant is easy to grow, great for cut and dried flowers, attracts birds and butterflies and is drought and heat resistant. The new variety this year is ‘Kahori’, a compact plant with fragrant, fuchsia-pink flowers with white centres.

Kimberley’s Josh Dueck after winning a silver medal in competition on March 8 during the 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi. Submitted Braydon Luscombe and Josh Dueck were the fastest Canadians down the hill on recently in the slalom portion of men’s super combined, placing second and fifth, respectively, on a challenging course plagued by thick fog and rain that forced organizers to postpone the men’s and women’s super combined superG until Thursday. Luscombe, from Duncan, B.C., laid down the second-fastest slalom run in the men’s standing category with a time of 52.17 seconds on a course that racers described as “rutty, grippy, and gnarly.” Luscombe did not finish his runs in downhill and super-G earlier in the week, so he was pleased with his performance in slalom. “It feels good to have a strong run,” said Luscombe, 21, who foreran at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics. “I was happy to do what we know as a team we can do and what we’ve done through the whole season. It was a really tough course, but you just had to fight through to the very

end. It was rough, but it’s rough for everyone else as well. “We were prepared for it and have skied here in very similar conditions last year. I knew what to expect and just went for it.” Dueck, a sit-skier from Kimberley, B.C., is well-positioned moving into the superG portion of the super combined after finishing fifth in 59.93 seconds - only a little more than one second off of the leader, Roman Rabl of Austria. With a penchant for speed, Dueck is still within striking distance of the podium. “The track is better than I expected it to be, given it’s been so sunny for the past couple of weeks, but it’s not slalom like we’re used to. It’s not feel-good; it’s really about survival.” said Dueck, who won silver in downhill on Saturday. “I pretty much gave up everything I knew about ski racing and went back to my roots in freestyle and just tried to find the best way to ski the snow and feel the terrain. It felt terrible coming down, but my time’s in the hunt and I feel like I can make up time in

super-G, so I’m actually really happy with how today turned out.” Mac Marcoux, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and Robin Fémy, from Mont-Tremblant, Que. - who have already racked up two bronze medals so far in Sochi - did not finish their run in the men’s visually impaired category. Sit-skiers Caleb Brousseau, of Terrace, B.C., Calgary, Alta.’s Kurt Oatway, and standing athlete Matt Hallat, of Coquitlam, B.C, also did not finish. In the women’s slalom, Calgary, Alta.’s Alexandra Starker, who competes in the standing division, was the top-placing Canadian. She finished seventh in 1:06.59. Erin Latimer, of Etobicoke, Ont. placed eighth in 1:01.18. Only athletes who finished their slalom runs advance to Thursday’s super-G.

International recognition for Cranbrook’s Idlewild Peace Park

The Idlewild Peace Park, located on the east end of Idlewild Park in Cranbrook has officially been added to the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) list of Peace Parks in Canada. The ‘Peace Parks Across Canada’ initiative began some 22 years ago in 1992 when the Federal Government and like-minded nongovernmental organizations such as the IIPT, began this movement to establish as many Peace Parks across the Canadian landscape as possible to bring the idea and notion of ‘peace’ to all citizens. Canada took this initiative to the world in 1993 and since then the United Nations International Day of Peace is commemorated each year on September 21. The Idlewild Peace Park was built in 1992 but unfortunately it was never formally registered as one of Canada’s Peace Parks. Over time it ended up neglected and overlooked. In 2010, the

City of Cranbrook, the City’s Leisure Services department and the local Baha’i community collaborated to first beautify the Idlewild Peace Park and secondly to bring the notion of ‘peace’ to the forefront in the community and to showcase the Peace Park to residents perhaps unaware a park like this existed in the community. At the same time Eileen Braaten of the Peace Society and Cranbrook Mayor Wayne Stetski began lobbying the IIPT to formally register the Idlewild Peace Park and were finally successful in February 2014. “I really want to thank Eileen and the other members of the Cranbrook Peace Society for their perseverance in getting Idlewild Park registered as a Peace Park,” says Mayor Stetski. “The Society also needs to be thanked for the wonderful celebrations of peace that they have organized in recent years. It is important that we never take peace for granted even though we

live in Canada.” In 2014, the 4th annual International Day of Peace celebration, coordinated by the

Cranbrook Celebration for Peace Society, will be hosted in Rotary Park in Cranbrook on Sunday September 21

from 1 to 4pm. The public is invited to attend the celebration of peace, which will also highlight plenty of local

BC businesses form coalition to halt government recycling plans Submitted

A coalition of business stakeholder groups representing several major sectors of the British Columbia economy announced the launch of a massive provincewide advertising campaign in 130 provincial newspapers to protest regulatory changes involving the recycling of printed-paper and packaging (PPP). The campaign calls on British Columbians to contact Premier Christy Clark and ask her to rethink a plan,

which turns over BC’s Blue Box recycling programs to an Ontariobased group governed by large multinational corporations. “For months British Columbia business owners have tried unsuccessfully to convince Minister of Environment Mary Polak to rethink the flawed plan her ministry put forth,” says Mike Klassen, BC director of provincial affairs for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). “Now business groups represent-

Tip of the Week:The last official days of the season signal a time to reflect, in the light of the Full Moon (March 16). Mercury is in the final days of its shadow period during which time it recovers ground lost while retrograde. Confused thoughts, perceptions and communications and disruptions with technology are some of the main issues that synchronize with this cycle. Now Mercury will re-enter Pisces (March 17 - April 7), one of its more challenging sign positions. This transit has been compared to trying to communicate underwater. Well, that is a bit exaggerated but pay attention to see the synchronicities. So it could feel like Mercury is still retrograde until April 7 when it enters Aries. Positively, it can prove useful for imaginative thinking but can be a deterrent to practical productivity. Mars then Saturn turned retrograde on March 1st and 2nd respectively. I offered a review for Mars in my February 28 Horoscope so I will direct you there to learn more. Yet, of additional note is that it has been in very close conjunction with the Moon`s North Node in Libra ever since mid-February. This brings the `iron fist, velvet glove` theme resonant with Libra to the fore. Coupled with Uranus in Aries, the sign Mars rules, which presents an unpredictable and potentially violent theme pattern, it is not surprising that we are seeing the synchronicity in the uprisings in Kiev and then the Russian military presence in other parts of the Ukraine right away thereafter. That energy pattern is bound to manifest somehow and somewhere and in a big way and the basic themes of military muscle maneuvers is bound to continue. As for Saturn in Scorpio (Oct. 2012 – Sept. 2015), this cycle can basically be described as metamorphic. Yes, the world is changing deeply and quickly. When retrograde the plot thickens and deepens as it activates a determined search of meaning and truths that transcend outer realities and appearances. Newspapers Canada and a group of eight business associations representing tens of thousands of BC small businesses and their employees in the agriculture, newspaper publishing, landscaping, printing and custom manufacturing, retail, wholesale, food, and waste collection sectors are launching a first series of ads to inform the public about BC’s new recycling plan. By running in every edition of 130 newspapers across the province and on social media – tagged #RethinkItBC – it will be one of the largest public awareness campaigns ever mounted in BC’s history. “We are not disputing that the ultimate goal of the government to

maximize recycling of paper and packaging to reduce materials going into the waste stream,” said Marilynn Knoch, Executive Director, British Columbia Printing and Imaging Association. “BC businesses are already working to make our province get even more clean and green, so let’s start talking to people from BC about how to achieve this. First we must delay the May 19th start of the legislation, and then get businesses back to the table to share their ideas with the government.” The program set out by Multi Materials BC (MMBC) will annex most municipal and regional district curbside/discarded material collection and will cause great harm to the

economy: in job losses, business failures and increased costs for BC households. The confusing Ministry of Environment-endorsed program creates a veritable monopoly to control much of BC’s currently thriving and competitive waste recycling industry. MMBC is governed by a Board made up of international business interests with Ontario/ Quebec representatives from: Unilever Canada, Metro Inc., Walmart, Tim Hortons Inc., Loblaw Companies Limited, Coca Cola Refreshments Canada and Procter & Gamble.

While you’re not looking, this is what’s happening to BC’s world renowned recycling program.

Well, lookie here. One minute you have a perfectly good Blue Box recycling program. The next, something new and rather questionable is being put in its place. And they thought they’d get away with it right under your nose, without telling you or asking your opinion. That’s definitely not democracy in action. The BC Government, elected by us to represent our best interests, has decided to offload the costs of recycling to big multi-national corporations. To implement this new plan, they’ve set up an association that doesn’t really seem to hold the environment, local jobs, or the municipalities that run the Blue Box program, close to its heart.

Perhaps that’s why some of our local elected officials are using the word “scam” to describe how the new program is being set up. It’s also perhaps why several of BC’s municipalities refuse to jump on board. That’s gotta tell you something. Now it’s your turn to let Premier Christy Clark know what you think. Contact her today to say that dismantling an already-working recycling program to replace it with something that few people think will be as good, is a bad idea.

What’s going on here?

OBITUARY

Sandra Diane Dayman 1946 - 2014 Sandra Dayman, born September 29, 1946, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in her family home of 37 years in Cranbrook, BC surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous seven month battle with ovarian cancer. Sandra was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. She met Doug in 1964. They fell in love and eventually moved to Cranbrook in 1974. Sandra worked for the Cranbrook School District. She devoted her life to her family and never missed a chance to see her children play in countless hockey, basketball and softball games. The last ten years provided some of the happiest times for Sandra caring for her grandchildren, golfing, entertaining at their home in Phoenix, AZ and shopping at the Fashion Square Mall lovingly referred to as her "Office!" Sandy's legacy is one of love, humour and effortless giving. Her family will miss her dearly. Sandra is survived by her husband of 48 years Douglas Dayman, their three children Ryan Dayman, Julie (Kurt) Luttmerding and Kimberley (Mark) Seeley, her beloved seven grandchildren Taylor and Jordyn Dayman, Isabelle and Brady Luttmerding, and Katelyn, Abby and Tyler Seeley. Sandra is also survived by her sister Joan Marshall and her brother Dean Tidball of Regina. Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Pamela Chu and her team of doctors and nurses at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. We also would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lenz of Cranbrook for his support and compassion throughout our difficult journey. At Sandra's request, there will be no funeral service. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in her honour may do so to: Ovarian Cancer Canada at: www. ovariancanada.org Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service. Slugs: To some members of the CHCA who appear to volunteer only in their quest for power and control of the organization. Hugs: To the young fellow on 14th Avenue who sits on a lawn chair with earphones on, rocking to music regardless of the weather. He puts a smile on my face whenever I see him! Hugs: To the wonderful person who clears my very long sidewalk in the Candy-Cane Lane area. As a busy single mom, it is a wonderful feeling to come home from a long day and discover that I won’t be out shoveling snow after my little one goes to bed. Your kindness has not gone un-noticed, and is very much appreciated! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Slugs: Big Dangerous Slugs to the people who drive with their dogs on their laps. Dogs don’t belong in the drivers seat. Keep them in the back where they belong and will be safe. Slugs: To the people who DON’T know how to drive correctly. It would be helpful if you signaled when you want to turn. It also helps if you actually stop at stop signs and red lights. Oh and maybe if you stopped texting while driving you would be able to function your vehicle properly. Hugs: To the owner of Healing Hollows. I love your oils and products, it truly works wonders!! Hugs: Huge hugs to the Jason Smaldon family for sharing your beautiful memorial. I did not know your son or your family but I was so touched I wanted you to know how your words inspired me. It was the most beautiful memorial I have ever read. I could feel the love, laughter and pain right through the pages of the paper. Thank you for your inspiration and your memories. God Bless you all! Slugs: Great Big SLUGS to the RN at the Cranbrook hospital that told me, while smiling, that there are over 24,000

deaths directly due to ERRORS made in hospitals every year in North America, including medication errors, and that if I felt I could do a better job caring for my sick Mom at home I was welcome to take her home. Frankly I could do a better job if I had the equipment, support, relief staff and resources you have. There is NO EXCUSE for making so many errors and ABSOLUTELY no understanding for your callous and harmful attitude. If it was your family member that had been harmed I am sure your attitude would be very different. GREAT BIG GERMS FOR YOU TOO!!!!! I think you should be fired!!! Slugs: To a certain garage for doing such poor work on my car that I had to return it 2x after paying $1,200 and then telling me that it was another problem as well for another $500 plus. Doing unauthorized work and billing me for it and I still had to go to a different garage to have fixed what you didn’t. Shame on you and your lack of integrity!! Slugs: to the Snow Removal Operators who keep plowing in the only public turnaround in Bull River. If you can’t or won’t plow it out, how about lifting your blade as you go by?? Hugs: A big hug to the little green pick up truck that came by 14 & 14th to help shovel the driveways on the street. It was most appreciated! I saw a portion of the decal on the door that said “tree service”, but I couldn’t see what company it was. Whoever you were..Thanks :-) Slugs: BIG SLIMY SLUGS to the sticky fingered subcontractor carpenter who came to our house to do a job while we were not home. You went into our basement and removed a lot of tools including some saws. Shame on you!! Hugs: Thank you very, very, very much to the lady that tuned in my lost cell phone at Safeway. Hugs: A huge neighborhood group hug to Doug and John on 20 St. S. who break out the quads and plow the sidewalks, snow plow ridges etc for the whole block. Much appreciated by all!

If you have a Hug or a Slug...we’d like to hear it. Simply email us at shannon@kootenayadvertiser.com with your short quips, compliments or complaints. We will print the anonymous submissions for all to see. Be honest, but all we ask is you keep it tasteful. Hugs and Slugs will be printed as space allows, if we miss yours check back next week and you will be bumped to the start of the list. You can also drop by a written submission to our office at 1510 2nd Street N. or call Shannon at (250)489-3455 or 1-800-665-2382
