CLOCKWISE FROM ABOVE: Canada’s Danielle Wotherspoon competes in the first heat of the women’s 500-meter speedskating race; Zina Kocher catches her breath after the women’s biathlon 4x6k relay; Lyndon Rush, Lascelles Brown, David Bissett and Neville Wright speed down the track during the 3rd heat of the Men’s Four-Man Bobsled; Mellisa Hollingsworth starts her first run during the women’s skeleton competition.

Olympic dreams fulfilled MELLISA HOLLINGSWORTH, LYNDON RUSH LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT STAGE OF THEIR LIVES BY JOSH ALDRICH ADVOCATE STAFF Mellisa Hollingsworth and Lyndon Rush have spent much of the last two decades focused on being the best in the world in their sport. Now they are left focusing on the next step in their lives.

While they both have options, there was no definitive game plan for when the Sochi Winter Olympic Games concluded, ending the athletic careers of the two Central Albertans. Hollingsworth finished 11th overall in the skeleton, but laid down the second fastest time of the heat with her final run. Rush finished ninth in both the two-man and fourman bobsleigh. Neither athlete had the storybook ending the former world champions desired, but both are content with their decisions to walk away from their respective sports.
