Shayla Edlund, left, Shannon Silverton and Lori Cleave showed off their hats during the 100 Mile Nordic Ski Society’s annual Ladies Ski and Mad Hatter Tea Party on March 2. Silverton won the prize for best hat, as judged by the four youngest participants during the International Women’s Day event.
Wranglers taking it to Storm in Round 2
After knocking off the Chase Heat four games to one in Round 1 of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoffs on March 3, the 100 Mile House Wranglers earned a Round 2 playoff berth against the Kamloops Storm. The Storm is a KIJHL powerhouse and captured the Doug Birks Division regular season number 1 seed by a wide margin. Kamloops knocked off fourthseeded Sicamous in five games, with four consecutive victories after being shut out 4-0 in the first game. The first tilt between the
Wranglers and the Storm is in Kamloops on March 8, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. Game 2 between the Doug Birks Division rivals is also in Kamloops on March 9, starting at 7 p.m. Games 3 and 4 are at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre in 100 Mile House on March 11 and 12, starting at 7 p.m. Game 5, if necessary, will also be in 100 Mile House on March 13, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. Games 6 and 7, if necessary, will be back in Kamloops on March 15 and 16, starting at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the Wranglers home games are only available in the Wranglers office at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre. The normal playoff format would have two games in one community, two in the other and then alternating sites for the last three games, with the advantage going to the top-seeded team. The playoff schedule had to be changed to the two-three-two format because 100 Mile House is hosting the Midget provincial championships. Club president and KIJHL direc-
tor Tom Bachynski says it’s an incredible feeling to be heading into Round 2 of the playoffs in the team’s inaugural season. “I couldn’t be happier for the players, the team and the town. “I think the town deserves it for the support that it has given to the Wranglers throughout the year because it has been nothing short of remarkable. This is the payback to be able to play in the second round.” For regular Wranglers playoff updates, visit www.100milefreepress.net and read the 100 Mile House Free Press on March 12 and 19.
