An Anna’s hummingbird, a species of bird that was once rare in the region, has exploded in population in the last few years. That’s one of the findings of the annual Christmas bird count in the Tri-Cities — held on Dec. 14 — which is part of a North America-wide count that started in the early 1900s as a way of replacing the annual bird hunt.
