This state of the art laser is a true gift to the people of Campbell River. Too often Campbell River patients have to travel down island to receive quality care and this laser enables them to have access to the best possible technology right at home. I am honored to be able to use this laser for their benefit and I thank the hospital foundation for investing in the vision of its community. Dr. Karen Moosbrugger

Caring for our sight Take a moment to notice the colour of a loved one’s eyes or the ocean on a stormy day, the colour of leaves on the ground, or the clouds just before a storm. Our vision is often taken for granted. Yet, when we start having problems with it, we realize just how important it is. Dr. Karen Moosbrugger is the Ophthalmologist at Campbell River Hospital and with the Argon Laser System she is able to offer her patients the choice for treatment close to home. She chose medicine because she was fascinated by the complexity of the human body and she knew that she wanted to work with many different types of people. The eye is such a small organ and yet there is so much to know and for Dr. Moosbrugger it was a challenge worth pursuing. It has also been a rewarding career path, having the ability to help preserve or improve upon an individual’s sight is to help them with one of their most valued parts of their life. “People tend to value their sight more than any other sense. To help preserve and improve upon an individual’s sight is to help them with one of their most valued parts of their life,” states Dr. Moosbrugger. “There is a lot of fear around loss of vision and I am happy when I am able to educate patients and dispel some of that fear that really takes away from their quality of life. I love the looks of relief when I can provide assurance. I love the looks of joy when they realize that their condition is improving.” Campbell River Hospital Foundation committed to purchase this laser system for Ophthalmology because we Find us on Facebook - www.facebook.com/campbellriverhospitalfoundation believe that it is a vital piece of equipment for our hospital. The laser is used for a number of different procedures including the treatment of scar tissue following Cataract Surgery, treatment of chronic open angle glaucoma and emergency retinal conditions such as retinal tears.

Presidents Message The holidays are rapidly approaching and on behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year. There has been much talk about the plight of health care in Campbell River. But one thing that we can all agree upon is the importance of having the best doctors, the best nurses, the best facility and the best equipment that we can possibly have. We all want our loved ones cared for in a prompt and professional manner. The Campbell River Hospital Foundation has budgeted to spend approximately $350,000 in new medical equipment and health care services this year... something that we are very proud of. The Campbell River Hospital Foundation strives to improve health care for all residents of our community. Our number one goal has been and will remain to raise funds to support the Campbell River Hospital and Yucalta Lodge. This is critically important for two primary reasons. The first being the ability for our Hospital to have the latest medical equipment so that more services can be provided locally. Providing health care solutions in our own community eliminates the need for people to have to travel to obtain those same services. The second reason is to attract and retain medical professionals to our community. We are competing with the global market for these health care professionals and while we feel that we have the best community, many times it comes down to having the specialty equipment available to offer these physicians.

Every Dollar makes a Difference For all existing and new monthly donors your name will be entered for a chance to win a two night get-a-way to Black Rock Resort in Ucluelet. The Travel Place in Campbell River and Black Rock Resort in Ucluelet have come together to help make a difference in health care. Whether you are in your golden years, planning for retirement or raising your family, we ask you to imagine one single day in this beautiful place that we live without your good health. Your donation supports our hospital and Yucalta Lodge through equipment purchase, staff education and capital projects and leaves a legacy of health care excellence for future generations. Monthly donations are a convenient way to spread your donation over the entire year and provide the Campbell River Hospital Foundation with a sustainable funding source. It allows you to budget your generosity – and you receive a single, cumulative tax receipt at year end. You may choose to have funds withdrawn regularly from your bank account or from your credit card. It could be a $10.00 perpetual monthly donation. It’s that easy and you may update or cancel at any time. Our Staff Lotto program is a wonderful example of how a group can come together to support their organization.
