Food bank volunteers are ready to help out By Treena Mielke Christmas is fast approaching and while many people are enjoying the festive season in grand style, there are some out there who are less fortunate. And, sadly, even as some people enjoy a holiday table laden with delicious food, some people are struggling to make ends meet and being able to enjoy a turkey dinner with all the trimmings is not an option. That is where the Rimbey Food Bank comes in.

Due to generous and caring volunteers Christmas hampers will be made up for those in need and given out a few days before Christmas. Each hamper contains enough for a delicious Christmas dinner as well as some extra items to help make life a little easier during the dark, cold days of December. Hampers also contain toys and gifts for the family. Christine Simpson, office manager at FCSS said food and cash donations are coming in and she ex-

which is appreciated. The food bank is a valuable asset to the community, she said. “Anyone can find themselves in a situation where they may need to access the food bank. They could be laid off or have a serious illness or suffer from some other set back. It can happen to anyone.” Simpson noted all food bank recipients are screened. The Rimbey Food Bank is located in the basement of the Nazarene Church. For more information contact 403843-2030.

Mary Busch and Joan Carrigan, long-time Rimbey volunteers helped out at the food bank last week. With Christmas fast approaching, volunteers are busy preparing hampers for those less fortunate families.

pects donations of toys will pick up during the next few days. “We are happy to accept cash and food donations and anyone who want to help out is more than welcome to phone the office to find out the schedules of the work bees,” she said. Simpson noted school students have helped out at the food bank by carrying boxes and unpacking food. She said many regular volunteers are getting older and having the youth step up to the plate and lend a helping hand is wonderful. Local businesses have also sent staff to help out during December
