It was a nice November day. A fine day for a plane ride. So at about 1 p.m., Dick Perry and his five mates took off from England headed to Cologne, Germany. They weren’t going to the historic
city for a late-fall picnic on the banks of the Rhine River, though. They were men on a mission. A bombing mission. It was a pleasant flight that day, Nov. 27, 1944, a month before his 21st birthday. Until they reached their destination. That’s when enemy flak started flying at them from all angles. It was his 13th bombing mission into enemy territory and Perry had never seen so many shell bursts at the same time.

“Drop those bombs and let’s get out of here,” the other four crew members screamed at pilot Robbie Robertson and Perry along with a few expletives. But they had a target to hit, a marshaling yard. Robertson and Perry persevered despite the sight of aircraft spiraling downward to their demise. Somehow they came out unscathed. “As long as [Robertson] continued to fly the plane I would continue to handle the bombs,” recalls
Developers of Victoria Hill are suing the City of New Westminster because the city intends to flip a property Onni sold the city for $1. Onni Development Corp., has filed a civil suit in B.C. Supreme Court claiming the company was induced by the city to spend money for the city’s benefit “not expecting [the city] would turn that benefit into a profit for itself in a way that also disadvantaged Onni.” In its notice of civil claim, Onni said as part of the 2007 deal that saw the company develop the former Woodlands land, the city had an option to “compel” Onni to hand over Parcel E from the land it purchased from the B.C. Buildings Corporation (BCBC) In its claim, Onni contends when they handed it over in 2008 the city promised not to develop it for commercial use.
