$15 million more for Malahat work Christine van Reeuwyk News staff
Work will begin next year on $15 million more in safety improvements for Malahat Drive. Premier Christy Clark announced the investment during her keynote address at the seventh annual Vancouver Island Economic Alliance Summit Wednesday in Nanaimo. “This section of highway has seen too many accidents and we’ve heard from first responders and residents about the need for continued improvements and that’s what we’re doing,” said Clark. “We’re going to do more work to ensure the Island’s highways meet the needs of a growing population and a growing economy.” Work includes another Christy Clark 2.3 kilometres of median barrier on the highway north of Shawnigan Lake Road, including an area commonly called NASCAR corner.
Planting for the future Alicia Lee, a Grade 11 student at Pacific secondary, helps with the planting of native species of plants around the Langford Lake boat launch on Wednesday. The school teamed up with the city to beautify the area and promote sustainable planting.
