Chamber encourages involvement in community building project By Treena Mielke Rimbey and District Chamber of Commerce is throwing its support behind a community building project geared towards helping individuals create a positive foundation for the town in which they live. The 15-week competency based leadership development program is designed for those who wish to improve their personal leadership capacity and, in so doing, impact their community in a positive

way. Participants in the program will learn to better operate their businesses or organizations, mobilize community resources, build community capacity and interact with all stakeholders marshalling them to a common goal. Chamber president Jackie Stratton is excited about the program. “ I really encourage everyone to get involved,” she said. “I encourage business owners to take it and get their employees

to take it. It is a very good program.” Stratton explained Rimbey’s chamber has been invited by the community of Ponoka to participate in the free program which is sponsored by several organizations in Ponoka as well as he town and county and the Ponoka and District Chamber of Commerce. “Our contribution is to be spreading the word and encouraging people to take part,” she said. “We are one of 56 towns in Alberta who are participating,” she noted.

Stratton said the program is all encompassing and would benefit anyone who is involved in an organization or who has a business. “Anyone would benefit,” she said. The program is to include five live video workshops which can be viewed individually or as a group. Live sessions are archived for viewing at the individual’s convenience so do not need to be watched when they are aired. Live video chat coaching sessions, weekly reinforcement and motivational emails are also part of the program. For those who register, on-demand video archive of all programs are available as is an on-line portal containing all materials which can Jackie Stratton provide a platform for the dynamic exchange of information among participants. The program is designed and facilitated by Ian Hill; an humanitarian, social entrepreneur, business leader and award winning philanthropist. Hill has been recognized for his commitment by the National Council for Community and Justice and the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission who both named him Humanitarian of the Year. During the program, Hill provides useful information and tangible tools on how to be more profitable by building healthy workplaces and strengthening the community.
