The History of 100 Mile House

A TIMELINE

We are very grateful to Mr. Gary Babcock , retired Ainsworth Forester, for providing information about 100 Mile House & area history. 1859: The discovery of gold on the Horsefly River by Peter Dunlevey starts the Cariboo Gold Rush. The junction of Bridge Creek and Little Bridge Creek is a favourite resting place and watering hole for fur traders traveling the Fort Alexandria, Fort George, Fort St. John and Fort Kamloops circuit. The original stopping house is known as Bridge Creek House.

1918: The PGE (Pacific Great Eastern) begins building their 1966: The 100 Mile House Hospital opens.

1863: The
