President’s Message

As president of the Golden Rockets, I am very proud to be a part of this new 2013/2014 season. The Golden Rockets have been steadily improving as an organization both on and off the ice and it has resulted in a marked improvement in attendance. To me, that is the greatest achievement of all! We as a team understand our responsibility in fostering and nurturing a love for this great game of hockey and we will continue to represent the Town of Golden and our hockey fans in a professional, fun and hardworking manner. I am proud to say that the expectations of the Golden Rockets and their fans are at an all time high. On the success from the 2012-2013 season comes higher expectations for future Rockets teams. When I took over this team 3 years ago I wanted to create an environment on and off the ice that would foster success. I believe we have that now.

The past season saw great things happen during the regular season and the post season.

We broke 2 franchise regular season records. These included most wins (31) and most points (69). We also made it to the conference final and on our way we beatFernie to win our first Eddie Mountain Division Playoff title.

As a coach I am very proud of what last years team accomplished and look forward to use it as motivation for this years version of the Golden Rockets.

We do have many rookies coming in but, I have confidence in the group we have brought in. This group might have some growing pains at the start but, its not how you start its how you finish The Golden Rockets will expect to win every game the play because of the environment that we as an organization and the fans have built. Captain’s Message To all the new and current Rockets fans out there, welcome to a new year of excitement. My name is Brett DeFrias and I am currently the captain of the Rockets hockey team. This will be my second year as team captain and my fourth year playing for this team. Last season was the most successful season in Rockets history. We broke the curse of not being able to get past the first round of the playoffs as well as beating the previous season’s point total. We also brought a division playoff champions banner to the plywood palace, but even all that isn’t good enough.

We as a team this year want to be champions and have set our goals above and beyond. This is another very talented team that has the will and determination to take on whatever challenges come fourth. We are talented as well as each player having an edge to their game, your typical blue collar team. We are a very young team that may have our ups and downs but its our twenty year olds such as Connor

Beauchemin, Mike Anderson, and Coltin Berard that will be the key players to step up when called upon and to help these young developing players feel like they belong. We may be young but we have high expectations going into the season for another great one.

Rockets fans please take your time and come support us in as many games as you can get to. We love playing for you. There is no better feeling than playing in front of a good crowd, and I promise every night we will never give up no matter the situation. For the first time in the history of the Golden Rockets, the team is going to the third round of the KIJHL playoffs after finishing off the Fernie Ghostriders in six games.

Both teams came out playing end-toend hockey in the first period that saw a total of 29 shots and two goals.

The Rockets opened the scoring when Blake Roney scored his fifth goal of the playoffs.

Fernie tied the game up before the end of the period on a goal from Tyler Gonzales.

The Rockets stepped up their play in the second and took a lead on a goal from Bobby Kashuba. They extended the lead less than five minutes later when Roney scored.

The Rockets tightened up the play in their own zone for the rest of the game and finished off the scoring when Carson George scored with 45 seconds left in the third.

After the game Rockets head coach, Ty Davidson, said he was happy with the win

but there was still a lot more to do this season.

Rockets’ President Curt Thorne is hoping that a new bus will help the team with recruiting.

The Rockets will have a new look when they hit the road this season.

The team’s new bus was purchased in the offseason and Team President Curt Thorne says it is safe and has a stylish interior. Thorne also hopes that the bus will help the team when it comes to recruiting new players.

The team’s management decided that it was time for a new bus when their old vehicle broke down late last year and they had to ride around in a school bus for a few games.
