TERRACE - A local man charged with one count of murder and another count of attempted murder made his first appearance in Prince George Supreme Court Sept. 18. Travis Stephens, 29, was arrested after an intensive search east of Terrace the afternoon of Sept. 14. He’s been charged

with murdering Eric Maurice Cardinal, 27 and wounding a local woman, age 29. Police say they were alerted to events at a Dobbie St. residence in Thornhill early in the afternoon of Sept. 14. A woman left one house, went to another house, saying she and another person had been shot.

The woman was subsequently taken to Mills Memorial Hospital for treatment. An extensive manhunt began after a yellow pickup truck was observed leaving the Dobbie St. area. The truck as then found abandoned on a rural forest service road in the Kleanza Creek area east of Terrace and

Thornhill. Officers from the Terrace RCMP detachment, the area’s emergency response team and a police dog and officer converged on the location. “RCMP soon located and arrested 29 year old, Travis Leslie Stephens, who was found down an embankment trying to hide from police,” said a police release.
